DS (4.5) interested in bodies, willies etc. Advice please!

I've been told that it's normal behaviour at 4.5 to be interested in willies etc, and this will probably be intensified by the fact that I'll be giving birth to baby number 2 in about a week. DS doesn't know anything about sex other than there is a baby in mummy's tummy which grew from an egg, and it will come out of her tummy like he did (c section) but some babies come out of their mummy's vaginas.

How can I walk a comfortable line between 'willies are perfectly natural' and 'willies should be kept private'? Any good books out there?

what's he doing to show his interest? fiddling? waving it around?talking about how babies are made?

Wanting to look at his friends' willies, bottoms and vaginas, if they're on offer, or even asking 'shall we look?' I'm not concerned that his behaviour is wrong, other than learning the social requirement of NOT looking at willies at nursery! but I'd like to know what to tell him about why and so on - I have absolutely no memory of what I was told as a kid, and am foundering.

I just told my dd that parts of her body were private (and we talked about which bits). If she wanted to touch them then that was fine, but she should do it when she was on her own. I also told her that some parts of other people's bodies were private as well, so they wouldn't be showing them to her.

Has he asked you anything? It sounds like you've done a great job so far of explaining what he needs to know, in an appopriate way.

I would just explain that his own body and other people's are private but I would also get him a book, maybe that you can show him so that he understands the differences between men and women. I cannot think of a book to recommend though but I'm sure there are plenty on Amazon.
