DS is 11 months actual, 9 months adjusted and has always needed his dummy to sleep. He doesn't have it at any other time and he also doesn't need it to get to sleep at night but does need it when he wakes up inn the night to resettle himself, and for daytie naps.

He's slept through fromm 4mo and has a great daytime nap routine and is always tired and ready for ed at 7pm.

I can't imagine taking the dummy away from him and disrupting our lovely happy routine. Is it bad to have the dummy just for these ties and when should I take it away from him?

Sorry for typos - DS is trying to wrestle the keboard away from me!

Personally, I'd let him keep the dummy. If he was sucking his thumb you couldn't take that off him.

When he's older the dummy fairy can come (like the tooth fairy), if he hasn't ditched it himself in the meantime.

I'd let him keep it for now. My dd actually started chucking hers regularly at about 17 months so I took it off her then with no problems at all. I was expecting to have to wait for the dummy fairy, but no!

I'd let him keep it for another year if he wants to-at least till he is old enough to understand something like 'the dummy fairy needs them for all the little babies' [or whatever]

Yay! So I'm not going to harm his teeth or anything then? Would be relief to not worry about it for another year.
