Teething - how long?

DS (almost 5 months) is teething and it seems to have been going on forever.
I can feel five little bumps all ready to come up and see the white teeth under the gum. Oddly, he doesn't have the first bottom two that are supposed to come through first.
He is in so much pain - up all night and crying in the day.
The teeth are there- they just need to break through.
How long did your DCs take to get their teeth once the bumps appeared? Both of us are exhausted. Someone please tell me the end is in sight!

it can seem to start and stop a bit... so could even be a false start... are you sure it's that that is bothering him? does he have other classic symptoms, eg masses of dribbling, nappy rash and a red patch on cheek? just a thought; i know sometimes the night wakings can just become a habit and the more it goes on it can get ingrained ..

DD is five months and has been teething on and off for the last 2 months, it seems to be going on forever yet still no teeth! She's so drooly and has been in a lot of pain at times, but that seems to come and go. We just keep giving her calpol/nurofen when she needs it.

It does start and stop... but watch out, they shouldn't really be that ill with teething, does he have something else bothering him.. lots of stuff get blamed on teething when it could be an ear infection or something else that needs a doctor's attention.

I would get him checked over by doc if it's been bothering him that much.

He's drooling constantly and has very red cheeks. He also finds it quite soothing when I rub his gums although the relief doesn't last long.
(My sister took him out for an hour one morning and came back upset because "I don't know how but I managed to get him sunburnt on one side of his face Grin)
He's seen the GP and she recommended calpol when needed. I'm just hoping it's not going to go on much longer. Sad
