he is 17 months and sits in a highchair. he always wants the food off my or ds1's plate even though he has exactly the same as us. when he tries to reach it and whinges for it, i ignore him and he throws his own food on the floor, also his cup aswell. should i pick it up and give it back to him(floors are clean) or just let him see that if he throws his food he doesn't eat?

No answers but my 14 month old is a champion food thrower too, if it's any comfort.

having exactly the same problem, DD 16 mths throws everything off her highchair when she has finished and it drives me bananas- and when i give a stern no, she beams at me, and DS, ages 3 laughs his head off.

krisskross ds laughs at me aswell, he almost throws in slow motion waiting for me to respond. ds1 has to stifle the giggles.

that's true madame, I'm just wondering if he can make the connection between throwing food and not getting any again or does it not matter?

I'm waiting for the answer to this one as well, my son is 2.5 and still throws his food all over the place. It drives me insane!

Dogs work well as vacuum cleaners Smile

take the food away. he will make the ocnnection.

kitbit · 28/10/2010 14:39

Ignore. And don't put lots of food on his tray, just a bit at a time. A firm "no" if you want to try that but no big reaction otherwise it becomes a party trick.

YOu can get bowls with suction on the bottom which are harder to chuck :o

booooooooooyhoo · 28/10/2010 16:46

suction bowls!! fab idea, going to look for some now.can you get suction food aswell? Grin. have a dog, he prefers eating the food directly off the highchair Hmm. ok will try taking his food away when he does it.

suction bowls are a fab idea- but DD is easily strong enough to pull it off. in fact she worked out first time i used it how to peel the pad away. DS never worked it out.

autodidact · 28/10/2010 20:37

don't buy the tommee tippee suction pad thingy. My daughter worked that one out @9 months.
