IS THIS NORMAL?!........

My Ds is 8 months and I take him to mum and Baby group once a week, which he enjoys. For last few weeks he has been acting differently - he seems more jumpy and almost seems scared of other babies! Last week a little girl crawled over to him and he burst into tears! I took him around a friends yesterday and sat him on the floor next to her 8 month old dd, and he burst into tears(not same girl), Is it because he is getting clingy? Or is it self awareness? Any ideas any one?!

He's what is medically termed as 'a drama queen'... it's a phase, my little boy had it for a few months at around that age and my friend's little boy had it for ages (and still has his moments now)... it's natural, I don't think it's a cause for concern just annoying, like seperation anxiety - ugh!

Sounds normal to me. Many (if not most) go through a more clingy phase. I belive it is connected to the next developmental stage where the child starts to be more aware of surroundings, who people are, where you are etc and so are more likely to feel anxious if there is more noise/people he doesn?t recognise/loses sight of you. My DD1 went throught this - from being happy with anyone to clinging to my jeans tearfully if I tried to leave the sittingroom. She wouldn?t even let me go to the loo without her coming too! Don?t worry - as frustrating as it is for you, should be just a phase and will grow out of it sooner or later.

separation anxiety hits fromj about 8 months

so in answer to your question

yes

and as with all 'is this normal?' questions of mums you need the mantra

its a phase, it will pass ..
