Routine for 5 month old - GF or other - anyone?

motherpeculiar · 13/09/2005 21:56

anyone able to give me a quick precis of GF or other routine for 5 month old?

can't seem to find a rythm from day to day with DD at the moment, although I had identified a fairly loose one previously which i found helpful wrt nap-times, feeding times etc. I know they change a lot as they develop and just wondered what Gina et al had to say on the matter

serious third party childcare starting next week and I want to be able to say something about what they can expect!

not expecting my DD to conform exactly to any of these routines you understand, just interested

sorry, am rambling

anyone got anything for me

tia

i think gina ford is pretty much...

up at 7... a bit of fruit puree fro breakky at 8

sleep 9 - 9.45

milk 11.00

'lunch' puree (vegetables) 12

afternoon nap 12.30 - 2.30 / 2.45

milk 3.00

(i think at 5 months she suggest food ASFTER bath, but we always found it better before)

so 5ish more food

5.30 - 6ish bath

6.15 last milk feed

in bed by 7pm LATEST

IF child is stiull waking for food then give a night bottle at 11.00 pm (which they should be dropping)

then they should sleep through until 6am - 7am and day starts all over again

that was from memory, but i think its pretty much what GF suggests

Sorry forgot to add.... morning milk at 7am!

OOPS

(oh and gine likes sleeping in a pitch balck room, in a gro bag... put baby in awake (without a dunny etc) and let them fall asleep by themself)

thanks a lot nannyL - tbh I think DD has been reading the Gina book herself - she likes to get up at 7 and gets very fed up if not in bed by 7pm. Not on solids yet though so don't know about that. She used to go for about 2 hours nap in the morning, about 2 hours after getting up (which I had heard was very Gina) but this seems to be changing now, which is throwing me a bit. Will look out for this new pattern.

thanks again

MP, my son is 5 months and until recently he was feeding on demand and there was no set routine. I did not even bother to much about one to be honest. He has now established his own routine,

Wakes up between 7.30am am 8am

Has breakfast and milk

Has milk at around ten a nap between 11 and 12

Has lunch between 2 and 3 then has a nap for two hours

Has a meal and a bath between 6 and 7

Goes to bed between 7 and 8.

Sorry for making this long I guess what I wanted to say is that sometimes they find there own routine. The nurseries that I have been to say that they work with what the baby is used to until they are 18 months old.

thanks Norash

I'm not trying to force any kind of routine on DD and am still feeding pretty much on demand, which i like. I just remember that with DD1 some of what Gina said seemed to be the case and was looking out for any patterns. DD2 has found her own routine but it seems to be shifting now so I'm interested in what others are like at this age (although I do know they are all different)

i think my big worry about when my mite goes into childcare is the feeding, as I have been doing it on demand so don't know what to say to care-givers about when to feed, other than when she seems hungry. Care will be split between nanny and nursery and I want it to be as consistent as possible. It is not helped by the fact that she is faintly bemused by the bottle, but refuses to suck (need a separate thread i think)

so thanks again for sharing what your rough routine is like

starlover so what does your ds get up to then?

Baby Whisperer's suggested routine has a 2hr nap about 2hr after getting up so sounds like it might suit you and lo.

thanks MT - will go check it out
