Waiting for fillings. Advice please

Found out yesterday that my dd (6) needs 3 fillings. I feel mortified and just want them sorted now. My fault too - apparently fruit juice is like neat coke. Also look at the sugar contents of those childrens fruit bars.
We can't get an appointment for the fillings for over a month. I am worried this is too long. If I cut out fruit juice and sugary snacks etc. do you think it will be ok?

If the dentist thinks they can wait that long then I would think it would be ok. You might want to look at her diet and tooth care for the longer term though.

I hope it all goes well for you both, good luck.

Definately. I have cut out fruit juice - just water and milk mow. And no snacking. I got a timer too for brushing for 2 minutes - I definately wasn't doing it for long enough. I just feel so awful. She also had a kit kat in her packed lunch every day. She has 2 big teeth now and 3 coming through - feel like this is a great big wake up call. Luckily my 4 year olds dd teeth were fine but i couldn't sleep a wink last night with guilt.

I know how you feel - my DS recently had to have 2 fillings, he's also 6. I'd just say to watch her milk intake as well - it's full of natural sugar - using a straw limits the effects on teeth. Good luck.

Thanks for advice on milk. At the moment i feel like i am poisoning my dds whatever they eat.

Oh, don't! I really beat myself up about it but when I spoke to other people, it seemed to be more common that I first thought. It's hard to brush their teeth properly I think; if your DD is anything like my DS anyway! He likes to try to do it himself and I was thinking "oh well he's 6, let him do it and I'll check" but I must admit I've gone back to doing it for him now Blush. I haven't cut anything out of his diet really, I just make sure I dilute fruit juice, and give him a straw with all his drinks. But don't beat yourself up, I'm sure you're a great mum [hsmile].

Thanks for your support. I suppose it may be more common than you think. I haven't told any of my friends because i feel a bit of a failure so maybe it's not something you broadcast.
I will turn it into a positive and bev really careful from now on to make sue her big teeth aren't affected.

My DD doesn't seem to have great teeth - she is 7 now & I still clean them. I think they are too young to be have that responsibility. DH disagrees, but too bad.

I took DD1 to the dentist yesterday (she was there about 6 weeks ago & all fine) because I could see little crevices in 2 of her teeth. I asked the dentist for fissure sealants but as they are only for adult teeth, she did something else with somesort of cement. Just a temporary measure, but better to avoid the decay. Perhaps you could ask your dentist to double check & do the same if needed ?
