Is it time to move him into a bed?

Ds1 is 18 months. Since about 3months old he has gone into his cot awake and gone to sleep with no problems. Sometimes he'll chat/sing to himself/his teddies for 5minutes.

The last couple of nights he has cried awfully when put in his cot.

The thing is he is fine right up until that moment. Big smiles, kisses, cuddles, and holds his arms up to be lifted into bed, then as soon as he is in there he cries.

All I can think of is that he just doesn't like the cot anymore.

His cot turns into a bed so it'll be familiar without being different iygwim. It's just he still moves around, A LOT.

Is it worth turning his cot into a bed and hoping for the best? Any tips?

At the moment he sleeps with the door closed as his bedroom is opposite the bathroom with the living room on one side and bedroom on the other so we have to walk past his bedroom no matter where we go and don't think leaving his door open will be a viable option....

Arggg, so many things to think about. Why can't they just stay small?

We recently had this with my DS (slightly older) and did move him to his bed. He has been happier but is still playing up at bed time (although generally sleeping better throughout the night).

We put a bed guard up so he doesn't fall out, although does enjoy climbing over it.

We have considered putting up a gate at his door to stop the wonderings, we're just going to see how he gets on really.

We did all the above with DD and she actually slept a lot better in her bed than in her cot.

Not much advice there really, just my experience.

At this age DS suddenly got quite unsettled, we're not sure why but leaving the door open, or having a nightlight on helped.

We didn't move him til 2yo, but all kids are different, if you think it's time to move him then it might be worth a go :)

Try some neurofen/calpol for a night or two perhaps, just incase it's molars coming through :)
