pocket money

Thinking about starting to give my DS pocket money - he is 5.4 years - has just got his first £1 from the tooth fairy and understands that we need pennies to buy things we like.

So thinking of having an "earnings" chart - cleaning teeth with no complaints 10p, helping dad wash the car 10p etc etc

what do others do/think ?

Our 3 DDs get £1 each pocket money, for this they are expecte to tidy their rooms before school, clean them at the weekends, take their own dishes and mats into the kitchen when they've finished their meals and just generally tidy up after themselves.

My dd1 (5.9)refuses pocket money as she has to buy things with it ( she wants me to buy things instead!
She will have coppers etc for her bottle though as she is saving for a house!
My dd2(4.0) like money to buy sweets and treats with and will take her purse anywhere

I think pocket money is great but DH thinks children should do things because M/D said so.
Think I'd be tempted to award extra efforts with money but leave the ordinary stuff with a few whoops of joy!

Stars on a chart which turned into money at end of week didn't work with my 2 (age 3 & 5). They live too much for the moment.
