2 yo's sleep suddenly weird.....

My 2 yo DS has suddenly developed very erratic sleep patterns. He has always been a pretty good sleeper and until recently fairly religiously went down at about 9pm and would sleep until 8/half past ish. He started dropping naps about 3 months ago but has maybe 2 or 3 a week, so for example on a night of 11 and half or 12 hrs sleep he wont nap, less than that and he will have 40 mins/up to an hour. Recently he has started waking up much earlier, last night he was still singing in his bed at quarter to ten and was awake by quarter to 7, there is no way he would go back off thinking he has had his nights 'quota'. He is obviously tired, dark circles and much more whingy (tantrumy) also, selfishly I am pg and bloody knackered. We are putting him in a bed next week as think its time, but obv worried this is going to disrupt his sleep even more. I think he is gettimg some back molars and I know their imaginations are developing quite rapidly so I guess unsettling dreams could be a factor but is it just a phase we have to ride out or how do we encourage him to get a little more sleep? Is anyone else going through this....please????

Sorry normal phase if my one is anything to go by. Mine also started waking in the night so fingers crossed you wont get this. It did last a few months (sorry), we have just put our dd into a bed three weeks ago and she is sleeping better in there. Just have to remember that when they do wake up they do tend to get out of bed as well now. good luck.

Thanks for reply, I can deal with a 'phase' and I can cope with the idea of him getting out the bed etc,I'm prepared for that!! What I'm finding hard is my sunny little boy (when he has had enough shut eye) is a little horror when he hasnt and its frustrating not being able to help him sleep better so that he feels/acts/looks better!!!!!

Thats not going away for me, dd will still say shes not tired when she is a mardybum who is having a paddy and sucking her thumb! Rarely she will ask to go to bed, find it better to suggest we 'change her nappy' which is code for change your nappy and put you to bed Wink I dont tell her just do it.
