2.9 year old wanting to know how babies get in to tummy ...!

Feel its a bit early for my DD to ask these questions but she is quite bright and we have 5 month old, and have talked about him and her having lived in my tummy, so she has obviously given this some thought Smile

Far too early for any serious explanation

Tried "daddy put it there" but she insisting on "how".

Any tips?

Distraction is working up until a point!!

'special cuddle' ??

CuppaTeaJanice · 11/10/2010 14:12

Daddy planted some seeds inside Mummy's tummy with his willy?

Mummy & Daddy had a love hug?

Lots of people talk about 'special cuddles' but it makes me feel a bit sick - sounds like something a paedophile would say.

Get 'Mummy laid an Egg' by Babette Cole - it's a very simple explanation, but really well put

all feels a bit too close to the truth for a 2 year old Blush

think more than anything she wants to make sure it isnt happening again!! Grin

Why not just tell it like it is, like CuppaTeaJanice suggested? No need for either of you to be embarrassed about it. You can tell her it's the same with baby animals too if that makes it seem any less weird Grin

Try truth, but only as far as she wishes, e.g. Daddy and Mummy had sex, then see if she asks what sex is, something adults do with each other for fun and to make babies, then see how far she goes.

Our DS didn't ask, but friend's DS of same age did and got these answers and seems fine. I, on the other hand, remember thinking about it a lot (sister is 2,5 yrs younger than me), and my Mum says I cried for nights at 3.1 because I was terrified a baby would suddenly emerge from my belly button if I got a kiss from Daddy. Truth hurts less.

I just said that I have lots of eggs in my tummy that have always been there and they start to grow into a baby when Mummy and Daddy want a baby. (I likened it to seeds that we plant in the garden germinating and growing into plants - cress seeds really good at showing the root etc. break out).

My dd is 3.5.

She's known for well over a year where babies come from. I just told her the truth.

Men have sperm, women have eggs. The sperm from the man and the egg from the woman mix to make a baby. That was how she started. Then she asked more quetions as time went on.

She knows all about fallopian tubes, wombs, cs, testicles, twins, placentas etc.

They're just facts of life. They nod, maybe ask a couple more questions, go back to pretending to be a cat or whatever.
