My son has his two year check in a fortnight's time - I can't for the life of me remember what they look for at this stage (even though I have a 4.6 yr old dd ) - can anyone help me please!!!!

TIA!

If I remember correctly.....
50+ words
circular scribble
building a tower of 4 blocks
threading string through beads
those "jigsaws" where you put a shape into a hole
some kind of imaginary play - our HV used a tea set and asked what ds was eating

Sure there must have been other things, but it was 2 years ago!

hi
my son had this last week at 22mths. He was asked to point out body parts. Point to his shoes etc. Build a tower with blocks. PLay with a bead coaster thing. Given a pencil to draw then hv drew a line, asked him to do one and same for a circle. she weighed and measured him.Asked about talking, eating sleeping and think that was it.

from what i can gather different hv do different things.

God - could your chidlren do all these things - don't think DS would know many of his body parts and not sure about the 50 words - DD has always talked too much on his behalf (although he has improved recently!!!)

Help - worried now!!!!!!!!

Sorry - don't get stressed! I should have added that ds did not thread the beads nor do the circular scribble, and it was still fine. He was a right chatterbox, but I have seen HV recently with dd who is slow starting to talk (same reason as yours I suspect) and she said that many of the children she sees at the two year check only have a handful of words and are fine. They have a checklist of stuff, but look at overall development really.

aww dont stress...ds baltantly refused to talk to the hv until we left. Really dont worry

Thank you both for setting my mind at rest - though I'll probably still worry until the HV has been (suspect I was the same for my DD's 2 and 3 year check!!!!! - a worrier by nature me!!!!)

Of course! Despite everything, I still see it as a sort of test. Probably reinforced by friend's experience with GP who said "well, I just can't pass her on that" at her dd's 8 month check - as though it was a driving test or something. Good luck (there I go with the test thing again...)
