Leaky Overnight Nappy

Tee2072 · 07/10/2010 09:03

My son is nearly 16 months and just recently has started peeing a lot in his sleep. So much that we've had two over night nappy leaks. Both while co-sleeping with me. Hmm

Anyway, what does everyone use overnight? I have been using Pampers since he was born with no issues, changed him to Pull Ups after the first leak, thinking they are for older children and might hold more, and woke up to a leak today.

So any suggestions?! Other than DH's that we set an alarm for about midnight and one of changes him?

Try different brands/sizes. We found that pull ups were the worst for leaks! Also, after he has gone to sleep, check his nappy is still in place properly - DS discovered his bits around this age and we suffered from leaky nappies caused by him trying to get his hand down his nappy to feel hi bits!!

Thanks for the response Poogles.

I know it's not the hand in the nappy as he wears a vest and footed PJs over it and he's never unsnapped! But it was a good suggestion.

I will try a different size of nappy next.

Depending on if he's getting plenty of milk during the day you could try cutting down his bedtime milk a bit. Our DS (22 months) used to often leak overnight and it does depend on the nappy (we now use Pampers all the time) but I've started cutting his milk down from 6-7oz to 4-5oz and he leaks a lot less often. He gets plenty in the day anyway and he doesn't seem to want loads before bed (mainly because he's running around like a mad thing pretending not to be tired!).

I had this problem a few months ago. I was using pampers active fit which were great, until they changed the design.

I now use Huggies baby dry and haven't had a leak since (fingers crossed!)

Define plenty of milk!! He drinks 7 - 8 oz on wake up, 7 - 8 after lunch and he will drink a full bottle before bed, most but not all nights.

He's also recently started drinking a lot of water with his dinner. He has that in a sippy cup and pretty much drinks a whole sippy cup full with his dinner.

So maybe it is just too much liquid....

Try the lidl nappies, we tried all different brands with DS and they were the only ones that didn't leak.

Poogles · 07/10/2010 11:46

We also used different nappies at night. make sure you use the baby dry ones that are designed for over night. The Asda ones worked better for us than Pampers/Huggies!!

primrose22 · 07/10/2010 12:35

I have always used the nature boy girl nappies and have found others leak but not these. The added bonus is that not full to the brim of that nasty stuff thats in pampers etc and loads better for the environment. Surely better than having to get up in the middle of the night Smile

kveta · 07/10/2010 12:38

we had similar with our 1 year old, so started using the baby dry pampers for night time (and active fit in the day). have had no leaks since this change and he's drinking a LOT more now too (since he's discovered that water isn't there to poison him...)

mum2JRC · 07/10/2010 17:49

When this happens to me I find that going up a size in nappies helps

dingdong05 · 08/10/2010 12:59

Just try all the different nappies out there. My ds was very wet at night so I immediately went to the bed wetter nappies for bigger kids, but obv (now it's obv Hmm) they are designed for bigger kids not just bigger bladders... in the end I foiund greatest success with huggies trainer pull ups. Still have leaks as he has found his bits but it worked better than the age appropriate ones for him.

pollywollywoowah · 08/10/2010 13:07

If he drinks a full bottle of milk at bedtime after having a full sippy cup of water with his tea, that is a lot of fluid for his nappy to take! But I wouldn't suggest cutting the bedtime milk yet. Or the water at teatime.

Definately try the next size nappy though.

stressheaderic · 08/10/2010 20:11

Next size nappy and try other brands. I find Asda nappies to be really padded and we've never had a leak out of them yet.

TomThumbMum · 09/10/2010 10:37

we had exactly the same problem at 16 months so changed to pampers size 5 nappies and changed the bedtime bottle for a cup of milk on sofa before bath (I NEVER thought we'd be able to get rid of bedtime bottle but it wasn't even an issue and ds is happy with a cuddle and book before bed instead). No more leaks.

BikeRunSki · 09/10/2010 10:44

DS has half a pint of milk at bedtime. Moltex and Bambo nappies are great for overnights - have never leaked on me (DS is 2y 1m). Use the biggest size that fits.

Both can be had from here
