DS pulling nappy off during the night

I'm not sure if anything can be done about this or if I just have to put up with it, but I'd be very grateful for some advice from you lovely MNers.

DS is 23 months and a few months ago discovered the joy of playing with his 'tinkle' during the night, which resulted in his nappy leaking. We tried stopping him getting at it by putting a vest on under his PJs and when he found a way past that by getting him PJs that button up the back. Last week he found his way in and has started taking his nappy off so he can play with it more easily.

I have no problem with him playing with himself, its entirely normal and to be expected. It's just the laundry I'm struggling with - in the last 7 days I've had to change his bedding 5 times. I've even had to wash his pillow a couple of times!

If anyone has had a similarly obsessed son, I'd love to hear how you sorted it out.

Not son but DD found her fanjo around the same age and loved to furtle about in her nappy. We found that putting the nappy on back to front and then a pair of knickers took care of that. She spent a lot of time without one on so had plenty of time to explore her bits.

I have a dd who went through a phase of taking everything off. We put dungerese on her, backwards, and twisted the straps together so she couldn't get them off. If you can't get ones without poppers on, you can always sew up the poppers.

Just so you know, she did it for about 6 or 7 months and has just now grown out of it age 2.7, it won't be forever, but I know just how annoying it is. My dd just wouldn't keep any clothes on at any time of day for a while, and it drove me up the wall.

Try these all in one fleecey pyjamas

Sainsburys do them as well/ Lovely and warm and very tricky to escape from them!

Not any real help but I feel your pain as DD has started taking her nappy off at night too.
She is 2.2 and newly pottytrained so i guess its good she doesnt want to wear one at night but shes weeing the bed so not ready for overnight yet.

I lost count how many sheets ive washed lately. We tried Pull ups but they dont seem to hold the overnight flow well enough.

However last nights nappy was half off, bone dry and no wet bed so we might be cracking it!

I agree that the all in ones that do up at the back sound worth a try . Good luck.

Grobag?

GwennieF · 07/10/2010 20:20

Thanks very much, have tried the Grobag tonight. Fingers crossed that'll do the trick - I don't think there's any other options left....

We literally taped dd1s night nappy on, then put a grobag on back to front, persistant little bugger Grin

dd is 17mths and has been able to strip naked from the waste down for some weeks now. We put a pull up on at night (seems to hold ok for us) and a jamma suit that zips up the back...that seems to have sorted her for now.

GwennieF · 13/10/2010 20:52

Just to keep you up-to-date - the Grobag has done the trick (fingers crossed for fear of jinxing it), the bed has not been swamped once since he's gone back in it.

Thanks very much for your help. xx
