18 month DS is calling me "Daddy' not Mummy!

Hi

18 month old DS was saying "Daddy" a lot, and "Mama" only rarely. It's just dawned on me that he uses "Daddy" to call me (his mum), and also his daddy! Has anyone else had this and what's the quickest way to introduce "Mummy" back into his vocab?

Many thanks

My 18 month old DS doesn't call me anything (I am pretty much the equivalent of 'oi, you') but both of my parents are Grandma. He won't be told Grin

its developmental. virtually all kids go through this.

The 'd' sound is phonetically easier to produce then the 'm' sound which requires more muscle control and awareness then the d.

It will come. Encourage him but it might take time.

My DS 17mth has quite good vocabulary skills he says lots of things and repeats everything! But he likes to say daddy all the time too! To anyone who will listen! It was his 1st word too. Can say mummy, grandma, granny, grandpa, grandad. But sometimes its Daddy....

Yeah, I think "Daddy" is a catch all term for the two of us. I'm not going to take it personally! But I am trying to grow my hair (not in any way connected, ahem)

normal

Daddy is a lot easier to say than Mama (unfair but true)

dd did this routinely until 2, and still does if she forgets, or if she wants to make me laugh Smile

CrystalQueen · 03/10/2010 16:39

I get this too. If she really thinks about it, then I'm Mummy, buy mostly we are both dadadada. Depressing. It's reassuring to hear other people have the same thing - I was starting to worry that it's because I'm at work while DH stays at home.

Dd called the butcher's assistant daddy. Most embarrassing- I was not a young mum and he looked about 17 Blush

IMoveTheStars · 03/10/2010 17:16

DS went through a phase of calling everybody with glasses 'Daddy'

He would also point at any woman with short hair and say 'Man'

Hmm

Horribly embarrasing, but he grew out of it quickly :)

DD (18 months!) seems to be calling both of us 'Mummy' atm. Confused
