My poor lovely but very sensitive 2.11 year old dd has chickenpox we are on day 4/5. She is covered in spots (some in some horrible places) and has been really feverish but the fever has broken today and seems to be not too many new ones so hopefully turning the corner. Weirdly she does not seem to have been all that itchy.
The problem is that she has been so distressed by the spots she won't let me examine her and can't bear to see the spots herself. Yesterday I tried to give her a bath with Oatmeal but she had a meltdown when we tried to undress her. She kept saying she wanted them to be gone and this morning she would only get undressed if I did it "superquick" and she had her eyes closed so she didn't see the spots. She kept saying don't look at me mummy
She won't let me put cream on either and have had to put Piriton in Juice as she refused it after the first time ( it does taste minging though!).
Has anyone else experienced a child who hates being ill? She has never been particularly unwell before other than the usual colds etc. but has always found it upsetting and seems to go in to denial about it even if its just a graze or something.
I am at a loss as how to make her feel okay about this I have explained as much as I can that they will go eventually but it's hard for her to understand. She is bright as a button but stubborn as a mule once she gets an idea in her head. I have just ordered the Highly Sensitive child book having done some thread searching on here, as there are numerous things she finds difficult to cope with, some of which have got better as she has got older. She is hating being cooped up too. would love to hear if anyone else has experienced anything similar.
