Hi am a little concerend about my 8 1/2 mo's development ...He isn't meeting the milestones I have read about ...he sat quite early but is not crwaling yet or waving or saying dada mama etc. He is a delight and really happy but his friends are all crawling round and exploring. Its probably just a case of the baby olympics but can somebody reassure me please!!!

You are being silly! :)

8.5 months is very early. My youngest is one tomorrow, and he didn't do those things at that age, but he does now. Don't worry! :)

ahahahahaahaahhaha

you're not being silly but welcome to competitive parenting. dd1 crawled at 11 months and was the last in our ante-natal group. she's absolutely fine.

when they apply for universities one of the questions isn't 'what age did you start to crawl.'

as long as your child is happy, sleeping and eating vaguely well, you're doing fine.

if he's not crawling by say 15 months, i might get a little concerned and visit the gp.

scurryfunge · 28/09/2010 13:14

Don't worry....babies don't usually say anything recognisable until they are one year or so.

neolara · 28/09/2010 13:14

Yes, completely ridiculous.

travellingwilbury · 28/09/2010 13:15

Those milestones are all best to be ignored (IMHO) , they all do things differently and as long as it all happens eventually it really doesn't matter . I do understand why you are worrying about it but honestly in a few years it won't matter when he first waved or crawled .

Wags · 28/09/2010 13:15

My DD sat at exactly 6m..... and there she remained until 11m when she crawled commando style on her front. Didn't walk until almolst 18m. Can't remember the waving, but she probably did say Mama etc. DS crawled at 8m but didn't utter a word. Probably didn't wave until 10m plus. They are all so different. I was lucky, in my little 'group' there always seemed to be at least 2 meeting milestones at a similar time so never worried quite so much. I remember 3 of them just sitting and watching the crawlers fly past. Really, don't worry Grin

Eglu · 28/09/2010 13:15

Yes, you are being silly :)

Neither of my DC crawled until 11 months. They didn't really say any words or anything until then either.

Don't worry too much. YOu will find that your child might be quicker in one thing and slower at another. All children develop differently. Use the milestones as a guide only!

Also, some children never crawl. DH never even tried to crawl but just got up one day and walked out of a room. MIL had a heart attack when she went back in the room and he had gone!!

Mercedes · 28/09/2010 16:04

My dd was sitting up way before anyone else and then she just stopped developing for ages. I remember being really worried cos we were due to go to the 9 month development (or was it 8 months?) check and she'd never rolled over.

The day off the check came and I had thought about what i was going to say to the health visitor. But as I was changing her nappy she rolled for the first time ever and that ended that worry.
Remember fast at some things slow at others.
