My Baby keeps waking in the night for his dummie

Hi, recently my 14 week baby keeps waking up in the night for his dummy. He goes back to sleep really quickly but it means I am having to get up about 5 times a night to give him his dummy. I have tried putting him down for nap in the day without his dummy to get him used to not having it, but he just screams and screams. Does anyone else have this problem or have any advise please

Is there any chance you could train him to suck his thumb? My DD slept right through from 5 wks as she was a thumb sucker whereas her cousin who was a dummy sucker woke up and cried - they had to just put up with going in and replacing dummy in her mouth every night)
I managed quite easily to wean her off the thumb when the time came at 5yrs old and i thank god for those perfect nights of blissful sleep - well worth the gap in her teeth!
Another thing she loved was a muslin cloth which was her comforter, i would put several of them in her cot and she would find one and snuggle that too even at 14mths.
Sorry not been much help but no-one else had posted and so i thought i would share what i did.
The very best of luck lucy Smile

Thank you, I will give this a try, in one sense the dummy is great but on the other its a pain in the bum!

Hello, there is a lot of advice on this but it will depend on your baby; I have a 9mnth DS and he uses the dummy to sleep with and did from about 4 months as he just wouldn't settle.. we went through the getting up all night to pop it back in and I almost did cold turkey on him it was so bad but he really needed the sucking comfort. In the end we clipped it to his sleeping bag using the MAM clip/dummy. He couldnt find it still for quite a while but then did at about 5/6 months so if he wakes he pops it in himself. I know I'll have to face the 'dummy fairies' at some point but for now he has it only for sleep times (day and night) and he sleeps for 12 hours over night so I'm not complaining! One tip is to remove it just as they fall alseep so they don't expect it when they wake but I could never manage this as I kept missing that tipping point! Good luck with it all! xx
