Activities for 3 yo ds?

Our 3 yo ds is a typical boy - needs constant exercise and eats us out of house and home.

We are struggling to keep up with the level of activity he needs - he is at nursery Monday to Friday and he gets to let off lots of steam there - but honestly at the weekend I think we could take him to the park and let him run wild all day.

Does anyone have any experience of what else to do with this level of energy? I'm thinking football/rugby/karate - is he too young for that kind of thing?

All suggestions gratefully received :)

What about swimming lessons? 3 is a good time to start if he hasn't already.

My DS turned 3 in May, and he recently started doing gymnastics lessons at the local gymnastics centre. He loves it - he gets a good run around during the warm up and then gets to swing on the bars, bounce on the trampoline and have a go on all sorts of equipment.

Does he have a trampoline? Or a climbing frame? My DD is the same and we got our trampoline for 80 quid...best money we ever spent! We also got a climbing frame on Freecycle and she loves it!

Both great ideas - thanks very much!

swimming lessons and trampoline are worth every penny. i know round here karate starts when they are 4 and football/cricket etc starts when they are 5

One of the best things I purchased for DS1 (very high energy) was one of those Mini Micro Scooters. He would tire himself out scooting about whilst I ran errands, and we would stop by a park where he would be able to speed about safely.

We also did swimming lessons and football, which were great, but scootering about really sapped the energy.

SofaQueen - great minds :)
Was going to say Mini Micro scooter. DS got his for his 2nd birthday and it is definitely the best thing we have ever bought. Not cheap but brilliant (so much so that he is getting the next one up for his 5th birthday in Nov)

Also swimming is fantastic - lessons or just going together, DS loved trampolining lessons (no room in our garden for our own) and we walk EVERYWHERE.

I was told that having a boy was like having a puppy - they both need at least 2 good walks a day. May not fit every boy but is SO true with mine :)

My two did Rugbytots and loved it. Site here.
