11mo DD hitting herself on the head

She repeatedly smacks her right side of her head with the palm of her hand and she's doing it more often. Occasionally she'll do both hands at once either side of her head just above her earsSad

I've thought it might be teething, attention-seeking as we're settling in at nursery, earache, the beginnings of ASD (when I'm quietly scaring myself stupid).

Any views?

My 13 mo DD seems to like hitting her head on things on purpose if she's just done it accidentally. I think it's to test out what made it hurt, or if it hurts again the next time. She also smacks her head with both hands - this is quite new and looks like it's when she's getting a bit annoyed about something. Strange little creatures, aren't they?
Definitely not symptoms of ASD.

My DD is 10.5 mo and has been doing this for a couple of months now. She's now got a routine whereby she pats one side of her head, then both sides of her head, then pulls her ears and then her hair above her ears and then, if she's realised I'm feeling particularly paranoid that day about whether this is normal behaviour or not, shakes her head really quickly from side to side. Yesterday I met up with a friend whose DD is a similar age and my DD patted her head and then pulled on her ear Blush. I think my DD would have tried pulling the other girl's hair too if the other girl hadn't whacked my DD first!
After a couple of particularly bad ear pulling days, I did go to the GP who said this was all a normal part of discovering the world. It does make you worry though, doesn't it?!
