Hungry baby formula = hyper baby???

I breast fed DD until 3 months, then switched to combined feeding which works really well for us. However, DD has been looking for a bottle every 3 hours so yesterday I switched to hungry baby formula to see if it satisfied her for longer. She had two bottles of it yesterday afternoon and was completely hyper for the evening! Usually sleeping from early evening onwards, she was squealing, shouting, wanted to play etc. I didn't make any connection til giving her another bottle this morning (having breastfed overnight) and she is now hyper again! Has anybody else experienced this? Could it just be coincedence??

Sounds like a coincidence to me. The only difference between first and hungry milk is that the casein to whey ratio is different i.e. it is more casein dominant and may help your lo feel fuller for longer. BTW 3 hourly feeds are fairly normal at this age

Thanks for that. I think I may switch back for a while and see what happens. She also had a little fruit puree yesterday but I doubt that made her act so differently.

I was just reading several articles about a link between casein intolerance and hyperactivity in children. I'm sure it's nothing but coincidence but I'm going to switch back and see what happens.

3 hourly feeds doesn't sound like a 'hungry' baby to me, sounds normal.

OK cool, I'll switch back (I had been told she should be on at least 4 hour feeds!)

have you tried baby rice? fruit can be sugary. Look for other alternatives in the hungry baby range you dont say how old she is but I think from 4 months they need to begin solids. Half the bottle/breast then the solids then finish the milk. try annabel kramer(?) baby food book. It is nonsense to say giving babies solids before 6 months will cause allergies. a hungry baby is a hungry baby. good luck

My 5.5 month old (BF since 6w) feeds every three hours approx from about 6am to 7pm - 5 feeds in total - and sleeps through. He's on SMA - I think the box says he should be having 4 feeds per day by about 6 months.

He has hungry baby milk for his last feed as we discovered (?) that it made him more likely to sleep to 6am rather than 4 or 5am.

I did notice the first couple of times he had it he seemed to be a little cheery ... sort of giggly and bouncy for a short while like he was mildly drunk Grin - didn't stop him pooping out at the required time and sleeping through, though.
