HELP! 3yr old with "irrational" fears.

My DS has always had an 'imaginary friend' for as long as he could tell us she was there, it's never been an issue or a problem until lately, firstly he is genuinely scared to stay in his own bed all night as his friend 'tickles' him, he had crept into my bed for the last 3 weeks despite me taking him back to his room and staying with him numerous times.

Secondly he hates mirrors (or anything with a reflection)- this included a drink on one occasion- he won't walk past our letterbox for example.
He is also terrified of lifting up the toilet seat (I think this is because he dropped one once and it made him jump!)
He is massively clingy with me right now, he will follow me from room to room and will not, for example stay downstairs on his own even for a second.

His most recent fear is trees Confused we went for a walk in the woods at the weekend and he hated it, if fear one too many fairy tales have caused this one!

Seriously though I am on my own with him most of the time as DH works away. I am upset and exhausted, I know that being impatient is not going to help and that he needs reassurance but I am impatient, and I any help but feel frustrated :( I would really appreciate some advice, my health visitor tells me she is too busy to talk :) thanks

We gave dgs various 'protections' eg a toy king[mega bloks] to watch over him, a torch to chase the dark away, a foam sword [for the bears of course] and a special magic word to make him feel happy if he needed to.[Ours was puddingcake!!!].He is now 4 and no longer so very timid-it all seemed to be associated with poo training I think.

Thanks Pranma
I have tried teddy bears, moving his room around, a 'robot' by his door and no luck so far. I even went round the house tonight and showed him that all the doors were locked so no-one could get in...so he said 'but they are magic mummy!'

I know something will work so will keep trying. I fear my biggest setback is not being patient with him which takes some doing when one is knackered (every mum would agree with that right?!)
