Is it for a disabled child?

AFAIK all councils have a Disabled Children's Team with social workers assigned to assess need. I would think they would be your first port of call.

Good luck.

Are you in a surestart childrens centre area? they can sometimes help with respite childcare for a few hours during the day.

Have you tried Home-start. They do not offer respite but do offer support in the home and out and about and may at least give you an ear to bend and maybe more advice. Information here: www.home-start.org.uk/homepage

Contact a Family will be able to give you lots of advice and information: If you need advice on any issue about raising a disabled child, ring the Contact a Family helpline 0808 808 3555, Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5pm.

I work for Shared Care Network - The Short Breaks Charity (the newer name for respite care) so if you're having trouble with your local council not putting your through to the right department try asking for short breaks services. Sometimes they are within the fostering team in social services.

If you have no luck with this please email us on [email protected] and we can give you the name of your local Aiming High for Disabled Children worker who can advise you further.
The very best of luck to you.
Sarah
