Very many questions about teething

HELP.

DD, 14 months, is currently cutting three teeth at once Sad

She cut her first six (4 top, 2 bottom) from 29 weeks, with no bother at all.

But this time it's a different story. She is cranky, clingy, will barely eat anything, sleeping badly. I honestly don't know what to do with her.

I'm giving her Calpol, probably about twice a day - she cheers up for about half an hour, but that's all. Teething gel doesn't seem to help, she just drools it off. She has her chew toy thing, and my finger if she wants it, which she does, intermittently.

She's been on the verge of walking, but these last few days doesn't want to do anything other than sit in my lap. I have watched so many episodes of In The Night Garden that my brains are seeping out of my ears, but it's the only thing that raises a laugh from her or maintains her interest for more than a few minutes.

So, my questions...

Molars - she is cutting three, but only one is a molar (the other two are front bottom, either side of the middle two) - are they really this bad? How many more to come?

Calpol - is it OK to keep giving her Calpol, indefinitely, as long as this phase lasts?

I don't need to take her to the doctor, do I? But it's OK to keep putting her in nursery, isn't it? She's not contagious, just grumpy and clingy.

Any ideas for cheering her up that don't involve Iggle bloody Piggle? She is usually such a sunny thing, and it is commented on by everyone, so this is really out of character for her.

Eating - she isn't interested in food at all. She's quite tubby, so in no immediate danger of starvation, but when should I start to worry? I'm giving her extra milk, which she will tolerate, but she is normally a ferocious eater and now will only have a couple of spoonfuls of anything before she gets cross and throws it away or spits it back out.

Thanks everyone. I am feeling v sad and bad-mum-like today.

My 14 mo DD is exactly the same at the moment.

I have found, however ,that she's much better when we're out and about, so we've been doing more of that. Iggle Piggle is doing my head in too.

Are you using Anbesol or any other teething gel?

Hopefully this should pass fairly soon, good luck. :)

Last time DS was like this with his teeth ended up he had a throat infection as well, can't hurt to get her checked out

Hi, all of this sounds pretty normal to me in terms of teeth cutting.

Do try and get out and about with her if you can, it will take her and your mind of the mind control hell that is The Night Garden.

You can give Ibuprofen too, which I find works quicker and for longer - might be worth a try.

Don't stress about the food, just give her yoghurts and soft cool things for now (fruit puree), stuff she doesn't need to chew really.

And really, it will pass, she will be back to normal, but with the added advantage of nashers!

Have you tried camomile teething granules or the tea or bathing her in it (it's very calming and helps the pain naturally) better than proprietary brands IMO

when DS is teething I use calpol AND ibuprofen, to the maximum doses or else I'd go stir crazy. I still take him out to the park etc as the days he's at nursery his teeth don't seem to bother him half as much, with NO pain meds Hmm.

Last time I thought he was teething it turned out he was one of many at nursery to have contracted hand, foot and mouth disease, which I didn't know about until the rash came up after the "teething" had actually passed (i.e. it wasn't teething at all and the hand stuffing in his mouth was due to the sores that go with the virus). So there's a real bad mummy story for you

Ds 8mths is teething at the moment and also seems to have gone off his usual food, so I have been giving him mashed banana with a bit of yogurt. I also get a carrot out of the fridge, peel it and give it to him to chew on. He loves it. It is cold and hard, so it soothes and also he can't bite bits off it at the moment.

Nelsons teething granules are brilliant, they are available from Boots.

My three month old is currently drooling, off her food (very unusal she usually feeds for 40mins six times a day and is down to 20mins a pop), not sleeping well and very clingy, constantly trying to chew her hand, her blanket or my clothes! Could she be teething already? She has done everything freakily early so far....?? How can I help her?
