I know, I know, they speak when they are ready etc, etc...

DD is raised in a trilingual environment- by necessity, that's what the family make-up is.

Tonight DP and I counted the words she can say, just for fun.

She can say clearly about 25 words in English and a few in the other 2 languages. She can also say "Where is..." and 'Why no...' (mama, for example, if I'm out of the house). She understands loads in English and my mother tongue, follows complicated commands etc, so I haven't any worries about her development per se.

Anyway, I thought it was pretty good, and then tried googling and all I came across was parents saying that their los were talking in full sentences by 18 months. Seriously.

So is it really common, then? Should I worry?

I think this is just to show off about your tri-lingual chd Grin. Ds1 was fairly late but then became very articulate very quickly.

Ds2 is 18 months can say mummy daddy cat car and tractor.

I put this down to being rubbish at baby talk. I've never really talked down to them or simplified my language so I suppose it took longer to pick up.

ha h..
at 19 months DD hd one word 'da' which meant either 'daddy' or 'dog'

DS at 19 months will try to repeat everything, but has a working vocab of maybe 30 words (mostly the names of animals).

DD just didn't see any reason to talk to us losers.

Thanks all.

cornishone0 no, not to show off at all- she's in a tri-lingual family, me, DP and DS are all different nationalities- well, DS is half-Polish, but sadly I neglected to speak to him in that language, so he speaks French and English, French being his first language. So I speak to DD in Polish, DP in English and DS in French- everyone in their mother tongue, because it feels more natural iyswim. Whether she'll actually end being trilingual- who knows?
