.. she loves sitting without restraints and is good normally

am I being a fool to myself because I've been lulled into false security at how well she climbs and how physically confident she is

Are we talking booster seat or just a normal chair?

Chandra · 31/08/2005 13:03

Well, I would say so but then DS was barely walking at that age and climbing was one of his better skills. So.... really, don't know!

Twiglett · 31/08/2005 13:04

well she's been in booster seat for 2 months and now just wants to sit on chair (well kneel) like her brother does

its too young isn't it?

No - not at all - DS2 has only used the high chair occasionaly (ie when he's mucking around and won't eat his dinner LOL) since he was about 14 months

He's now 21 months - and likes to climb INTO it - via the dining room table!

Chandra · 31/08/2005 13:04

sorry... climbing was NOT one of his better skills.

flashingnose · 31/08/2005 13:06

Well, I'd go for it then - if she's steady and is not an up-down-up-down kind of child at the table (my pet hate - can you tell??) then you've no reason not to .

WigWamBam · 31/08/2005 13:06

I think dd was about 18 months old when I ditched the high-chair, and she'd only been using it sporadically for a couple of months before that. It's not too young - or at least if it is, then I got it wrong too, and dd doesn't seem to have suffered too much for it!

magnolia1 · 31/08/2005 13:09

Katie is 2 and still in a highchair but only because she will not sit still

Cant wait till we can ditch the highchair

coldtea · 31/08/2005 13:09

My dd was the same & to begin with it was great. She wanted to be like her older brother & i found she ate much better at the table.

As time wore on the novelty wore off & i found she kept getting down, i've just won a painful struggle to get her back in the highchair, she is 2.1yo.

If i had my time again i wouldn't do it.....but that's me.

My 13 month old is in one of those seats from Agros that attaches to a dining chair. Its not neally so confined as high chair and he loves sitting at the table properly. Have I missed something really important to do with staying in proper high chair?

albosmum · 31/08/2005 20:20

My ds 16 months i swirtched to a booster seat which attaches to the dining chair - he loves it because it makes him feel like his big brother - he would never sit without restraints. It is the best thing I have brought this time

My DTs are 21 months and stopped usin a highchair months ago, we dont have a dining room so they now sit on this

SofiaAmes · 01/09/2005 00:54

My dd is almost 3 and is still in booster seat. I like my children to sit properly at the table rather than kneel to get themselves high enough to reach their food. I think kneeling encourages wiggling and therefore food spillage. We eat together as a family so, it's particularly nice to have kids with good table manners.

CarlyP · 01/09/2005 07:33

Kids can still have good table manners and not be restrained. my ds is 21 months and will happily sit and eat his dinner either in his booster seat or just on a normal chair. we often eat together as a family but i certainly wouldnt worry if he were to 'spill' some food.
