Hubby and I had a slight disagreement last night at the dinner table as I was nagging about my DS. He slouched in his chair and was playing with his food (pushing it round the plate). So i told him to sit up stop playing and eat properly or i would sit him in the kitchen and he could eat his dinner there where the cat eats. Hubby said I was being too hard, but i remember how I was brought up and I cannot believe how many of my dads ways have rubbed off on me.

Here are a few of them (and yes i know they may make you laugh or cringe or think OMG)

Clothes have to be hung up facing the right way and all hangers facing same way.
Newspapers cannot be read and mucked up before i have read them or i won't read it I will go and buy a new one.
Beds are to be made by the person sleeping in them.
Shoes have to be polished twice a week and properly i like to see a shine ( dad was in army lol)
food has to be eaten with no playing
NO SCRAPING on plates or i cannot eat (bro n Sis are same)
shirts have to be ironed properly with creases in right places.
Trousers have to be hung perfectly
as do shirts.
No lights if the curtains are open (and i live on the 3rd floor).

there are many others lol. DH says i am hard but i have taught him a thing or two since we been together lol.

How many things have you passed on to your children that your parents taught you?

I know what you mean, i always vowed never to turn into my mother and yet as ds gets older dp keeps noting on the little things that make me sound like her.

things like clearing your plate before any afters.
no juice until after a meal otherwise youll fill yourself up with juice and not food.
school clothes must be changed as soon as you get in and before any tv or treats.

the one thing that ill always remember (yes it sound evil but it worked on me!)if we didnt pay attention to roads she would shout "SLPAT! youre dead!!" atthe top of her voice. it scared the crap outta me and my bro.thankfully i only did that once before i remembered where i heard it from!

I always remember listening to my auntie and my cousin in the garden, my cousin was crying for her paddling pool out, she was going on and on and on and in the end my auntie turned to her and said "i'll bloody paddling pool you in a minute now go and play with something else.' I remember thinking - what does she mean???? Anyway, i vowed from then on (iwas about 14) never to say things like that to my kids, i do and clearly they dont understand what i mean!!!!!

I learned that it was not a good idea to make fires in the back garden next to a wooden fence. Amazingly, my children have taken this on board and didn't follow in my footsteps. My mother would be soooo proud!

If you cry for no reason you get sent out in the garden/to bottom step dependant on the weather.
