DS 15 months not talking

Hi

I am starting to get a bit worried about DS, who is 15 months (and was a month premature) and still not talking.

Everything else seems fine (he is small but growing above the third centile line), he is walking very well and is extremely active, curious about everything and interacts well with people. He just is not talking with any meaning. He says baba, dada etc, but does not seem to mean anything specific by it. He does seem to understand some things, for example, no, cat, milky. But he doesn't say them! Should I be worried?

Not at all perfectly normal. My Ds2 is 16 months and says just "car" but for everything. Im not worried in the slightest even though DS1 has autism. As long as he is interactive etc.

Yes he is very interactive, looks you in the eye, sees the joke in everything you do etc...just won't comment!

My DD2 was a month prem and didn't talk meaningfully at that age. She has caught up now (3.0).

DD3 is 16 months and talks for england, but I think that is the result of having 2 older sisters, being very impatient and wanting to be boss!!!

That is helpful to know. He looks all the time like he is about to say something, but it doesn't make any sense!

My DD1 didn't start talking until 23 months. Nothing wrong with her - at 4 she now doesn't shut up.

Sounds normal to me. My DS is 16 months and says a few words. WIth DS1 I remember a few words very rapidly turned into 10, then 20, then 200. Later I read about it being called the explosion; it really did seem to go from nothing to chatter very quickly.

My DS2 makes lots of sounds that sound like words that aren't. I think they mean something to him and occasionally I make out a word.

So all normal. Our HV team does include speech therapists if you did want to reassure yourself; they were very helpful when I was making the decision about DS's tongue tie.

These comments are all very reassuring, thank you. He makes loads of sounds of all kinds, a lot sound like words but not in any language I understand!
