11 year old girl getting into mum's bed at night.

A friend of mine is getting very little sleep as her dd gets up every night and gets into her bed. Her brother (3) sleeps with her as he has Down's Syndrome and that is they only way she can guarantee that he will sleep. Plus, their 2 bed-roomed flat has the tiniest box room, which fits just the dd's bed and a chest of drawers, so no chance of the children sharing.

My friend says that her dd is jealous and asks 'why can't I sleep in your bed when X is?'

Any ideas as to what to do? My friend is really at the end of her tether. She has tried night-lights, explaining that she is a big girl with her own lovely room, putting her back (although she admits that she has not been very consistent with this).

Thanks

Oh, forgot to add, no problems at school, but she has just started her periods (not sure if this may have a bearing).

I remember I went through a stage when I was about 8 or so of climbing into my parents bed at night, Mum never said I couldnt but I remember it being so uncomfy it only took a few goes before I reminded myself that it was more comfortable in my own bed... I suspect now that she rolled and fidgeted on purpose! Perhaps not but its a thought!

Other than that, without belittling what your friend is going through, maybe she could slip out and sleep in the single bed!!

I hope the situation improves, all Mums need their sanity sleep!

Thanks for your response, kiwidreamer.

I may suggest that she leave them both sleeping in her bed and she move to the single. Don't think she has tried this.
