Hi, my DS is 3 year old and doesnt sleep well. Usually goes to bed around 08:30pm, but doesnt sleep till 09:30pm. He keeps kicking or playing or singing in his bed for 45mins~1hr. Wakes up around 06:00~06:30 , sometimes around 05:30. usually wakes him in the night and comes to our bed.

Then he usually takes a nap for 30mins the afternoon in his nursery. is thar enough sleep for him? he tends to be very demanding, clingy and stubborn. Throws things around and major tantrums anytime for no big reasons, doesnt eat well at home. keeps spitting out his food and throwing it on the floor.

However he always a good boy in nursery.
What are we doing wrong? We have talking to him - he is not a good listener, tried praising him a lot, ignoring him - that really gets him and time out..

please advise.. I work full time, my and my DH time is completely occupried by DS demands. We are reaching end of our limits..

My DS is just about to turn three. He is usually a good sleeper, in terms of him going up to bed between 7-8pm. We tell him a story, have a little hug and chat and he then accepts it's lights out and will go to sleep, However over last few nights, he is less willing to go to bed, after we leave his room, he calls to us on the monitor, counts, talks or sits up in bed reading. He hasn't been getting out of bed and stays in his room, but means he hasn't been getting to bed til 9 - 9.30 either. He refuses to nap today but at nursery yesteray he slept an hout which is his usual nap time length.

I don;t have any magic answers but thought it may be comforting to know that there are others out there ! i know of other 3 yr olds who are the same ! Must be a phase they go through ?!

I am sure that if our children were tired they would sleep more !

Good luck !!

Hi Boostini, thanks for your post, comforting to know we are not alone. We do the usual rituals ( milk-brush-story ) and switch off the lights, even then he mucks around an hour before falling asleep and is up at 06:00 I think his short temper and restless bahaviour is down to lack of sleep, dont know how to resolve it though.

This will sound odd, but have you tried an earlier bedtime? He sounds over tired to me (Not trying to be critical). I would try a few days of bed at 7pm if possible (it will take at least 3 days for you to see any difference) and you might see an improvement [hopeful emotion] HTH Smile
