Hello,

I have gone from boob to nuby beaker(6month+) and a beaker that spills (hope u know wht i mean) for water...wondering what is the next stage...is it cup feeding or is there something inbetween? I see a lot of these bottle looking ones for 9 month but not sure why they r the next stage? R straws good?

Would love some clarification, want my daughter to continue with her independence she is 7months old can drink from beakers unsupported, eat finger food and is starting to feed via spoon independently. Just wanna know next steps for milk feeds and water...

:)

I used a tommee tippe sucky cup thing for ages with both of mine, until they drained them quickly and then simply bought a bigger one on the shelf in the supermarket.

My DD loved this one but I had trouble washing it and the straw broke quite quickly. So then I moved her on to this one which she loves and still uses. It's a non leak one which is fab.

My son moved from the sucky cups onto this one and is still using it but he also likes his sisters one and I'm thinking of buying more of those now.

So as you can see I'm fairly flexible. I do go by the age on the packaging as well though.

We went to a tommee tippee free flow beaker (I think thats what you mean by one that spills). I stuck with these until he was old enough to hold and drink from an open beaker without spilling it (about 2yrs), as I wanted him to be able to help himself to a drink when he wanted rather than being dependent on me to pour it into his mouth!

He could drink from a straw from a very early age so if we were out and about (at a resturant for example) I could just ask for water with a straw and would hold the cup while he drank out the straw.

Our dd started on a normal open cup at 7 months and although there was spillage along the way (only put a tablespoon in the bottom and help them lift it) she drinks from it perfectly well now at 14 months. We never had bottles or sucky-cups as I tended to think they were a retrograde step.

No bottles or sucky cups here either. DD1 went from boob to spilly tommee tippee to cup with 2 handles (a spilly tommee tippee without a lid.

This happened at around 12 months because that's what her day nursery did. I did a little experimenting with other types but they didn't work out and with DD2 will be doing very similar.

Thanks for all the advice. I am going to give my daughter milk from a free flow beaker and switch her water into a doidy (not sure if thats spelt right)cup. Prob after year with all that practice we do cups and I teach her to use straws.

Thanks for all those links 'teaandcakeplease' def gna get a free flow with no leaks to put a stop to water linking in me bag! LOL.

If u guys have any more advice on this topic it would be great to read more. I feel there is a lack of info on this compared to the amount on bottle!
