My daughter is nearly 3 and isn't interested in toilet training! she can do it as she has used the toilet the whole day before but she is so stubborn it drives me mad

I have tried all methods of bribery, from a sticker chart, to a lovely girly kitchen but she aint budging!

Help!!!! Should I be worried as she starts play school next week!

I was 3. I would have none of it at all. Then one day I came to my mum and told her I wanted to wear big girl knickers and use the loo. So from then on, I did. With nary an accident. They do things in their own time.

bobbybob · 29/08/2005 20:09

Play school may sort her out - she will see other kids using the toilet/wearing pants and want to too.

CANHAMS · 29/08/2005 20:09

thats what all my friends say, it's really hard as all my friends little girls are trained and they are younger than she is, she is also the most grown up and she is quite bright, there aint no flies on her at all, she would argue that black is black!!!!!

None of mine were trained before 3. Nothing to do with being bright and I would not worry. They all get trained sooner or later and probably sooner when in school/nursery as they see the other children use the toilet. mine were dry day and night in a few days when they finally decided they had enough of nappies. I let them train themselves. Far too lazy to attempt any training.

thanks why is it sooooo stressful! I think I was being so pushy because all my friends kids were trained and she wasn't! I've decided now let her do it on her own

mine were about three also, i remember when my youngest started nursey (preschool)and they said to me "oh and of course we assume he's toilet trained?" and i said "of course" then went home and C**P!, hadn't even crossed my mind, but we got sorted quite quickly after that!

the worse thing you can do is compare your child to a friends-guaranteed heartache and ayway i HATE all my friends kids

beehive · 29/08/2005 21:09

meant to say i thought C**P, didn't go home and do one LOL

Agree with cod. If you know she can do it, don't give her much option but to. dd was relatively late training (2yrs 9 months) having shown earlier signs of wanting to but struggling to "let go" and then becoming stubborn about trying. She regressed when we moved at almost 3 but very quickly got going again when playgroup resumed. Once we'd started we did not go back to nappies though.

mine is 2.10 and was verrrry resistant.

I wrapped up loads of cheapy party bag type presents and said she could have one every time she did a wee on the potty.

Oh and I refused to let her wear a nappy in the day, whatever happened.

After 4 days she was pooing and weeing in the big loo and is now pretty much toilet trained (I 'ran out' of presents on the second day and she wasnt bothered).

whitecloud · 30/08/2005 12:24

I sympathise. My daughter was frightened of toilets and the potty so it took ages. In the end she did, but she was four ! Had to start school at four, which didn't help ! I think they do it when they are ready, but society says they should be two and a half. Eventually it sorts itself out and you have to keep trying. Good luck !

Definitely don't worry about it - my dd is only just trained at 3.3 after announcing one day that she wanted to wear big girls pants instead of pull-ups. I flirted with toilet training a couple of months earlier and after one day with about 10 puddles on the carpet couldn't be doing with it so adopted a "child-led" approach.
