Hi everyone poo problem here.

My little man is 2 and has to have movicol every day to help him poo. we are still playing about a bit with the dosage as we seem to hit plataeus with him and have to alter it all again.
He will poo happily enough with the childminder but when he is at home he cries and seems to be in agony with his tummy.
He usually only does night poos in his nappy at home but will often do poos in the high chair for the childminder with no fuss at all.

we have tried soothing him, lots of cuddles, lot sof praise. tried almost ignoring him, have tried all sorts of different approaches but we seem to still be in teh same prdicament. SOmetimes he still goes 4 or 5 days with no poo.
It is never hard anymore so I cant see why it would be hurting to come out it is alwyas mushy.

We see a private paediatrician and he says it is all psycological but I dunno what otehr approach we can take with him.

It is awful to have him crying and in pain and screaming just over doing a poo.

Anyone else had this and how have you dealt with it?

Hiya. How is it psychological at such a young age? Guessing he has had medical tests to check bowels etc?

WHat do you mean how can it be psycological?

We had some probs with my ds (long story) and a couple of the docs said the problem is, if it hurts them once or twice, they learn v quickly to associate "poo=pain" and therefore do their darnedest to hold it in. Thus, making it harder than it needs to be. And it doesn't have to be very hard for it to hurt them, especially if there's a lot in there, the contractions (rectum squeezing it out) can be quite sharp.

That's all I know, don't know how to help you though. Get as much liquid into him as you possibly can; it will help his poo bulk up and make it harder to hold in.

hth a little.
