Waterproof/gore-tex children's shoes?

Where can I get shoes for my almost 4yo DS (about to be a size 9) that won't get sodden in the rain? We were away this weekend and it (typically!) rained a lot. I was fine in my gore-tex trainers but his leather shoes were just wet through.

Maybe they'll just be too expensive to be a realistic option?

Thanks for any help.

ricosta do boots/shoes that are waterproof, i get them every winter for my boys.

elephanten used to do goretex boots for children, in lovely colours too and then they were bought out by clark....

i go to an independent shoe retailer to get them for my boys :)

there is always wellies as well of course!

I think even Clarks do gore-tex now...but millets will do.

I always to for Ricosta, though.

Thanks for that. I think I'm out of the wellie habit because it's summer (not that you'd know at the moment!).

I do go to an independent shop for shoes but they ALWAYS bring me out Clarks even though I say I am not bothered about which brand. Maybe I should go on my own and browse the shop to see what they actually sell. I normally just say 'something brown'!

Ricosta also call it Sympatex or Ricostatex but it is the same thing as goretex.
Hush Puppies do some with Scotchguard on which they call "Worry Free".
Primigi are another company too that uses Goretex on a lot of products.

Ricosta use waterproofing on shoes as well as boots so tend to have a slightly bigger range than other companies.
You should expect to pay in the £50 - £60 region for a pair with waterproofing on but if you buy now and make sure you have a good size worth of growth room then they will probably see you through the winter.

Ricosta, Primigi and Hush Puppies all have removable footbeds as they tend to reinforce toes or put scuff guards on so make sure the beds are removed at fitting to show you the space.

Oh and you will need to respray them too with protector if they get absolutely sodden. The original coating won't have gone but it will keep it in tip top working order.

Happy shopping Smile

We have just bought some new GEOX Waterproof boots and they were only £48.

My two boys have always had Geox shoes and trainers, we just went to John Lewis and got Geox school shoes for £35 and waterproof Geox boots called Atlante that they can wear to school on rainy days and play in at the weekend.

Fantastic, and we don't have to put up with hot sweaty (smelly) shoes. His waterproof Ricosta shoes last year weren't breathable like his Geox trainers and he had really hot feet!

Highly recommended. :)

If you can find somewhere that stocks Primigi then I can highly recommend their winter boots. Two years running we've got away without wellies over winter (and last year we had snow for 4 MONTHS!). They're warm and dry and incredibly durable. Our local stockist has closed but I bought in the next 3 sizes while they were half price Grin
