Not sure if I've done the right thing about night time toilet training - any advice?

My DD1 is 3.4 and has been potty trained in the day for about a year. She rarely has accidents in the daytime now.

I haven't attempted to tackle nightimes as I assumed that most children don't become dry at night until quite a bit older (I seem to remember I was 4 or 5).

But the last few weeks my DD1 has been really reluctant to have pull up pants/nappy put on when getting ready for bed.

I've tried explaining that it's only 'in case'. Tonight she was totally adamant she didn't want anything on and said 'I'm old enough, I'm not a baby'. She was quite upset when I tried to insist and I really didn't want to force it - so she's asleep now with nothing protective on...I really am slightly annoyed with myself as I don't want her to wet the bed and be upset by that.

Some mornings the pull up pants are dry but some mornings they're sopping. And although she said tonight she would get up and go to the loo if she needed it, neither me or DH have ever known her to do that before.

I a bit cross because I think my MIL has given DD the idea that pull up pants at night are 'babyish' - this all began after DD1 had had a sleepover there a few weeks ago and my MIL kept going on to me about how she though DD1 was ready to be dry at night, in front of DD.

Oh dear, what's the best thing to do if she has an accident tonight?

Sorry this is long.

Trust her. She may have a few accidents, but if she says she is ready, go with he flow.

You do have a waterproof mattress protector on the bed, don't you!

Go with it for a few days. A couple of night time accidents might either persuade her to get to the loo in time or she might decide she would be happier back in pull ups for a while longer. It's summer so not too painful to be doing extra laundry if it goes pear shaped.

Thanks LynetteScavo,

Yes she perhaps is more mature than I'm giving her credit for.

Err no Blush - don't have the protector on.....aggghhhhhhhhh...

Thanks Meglet - yes, actually it is a good thing that she's thinking about wanting to be grown up, accidents or not.
