ds is now walking 6 wks, still a wee bit wobbly but generally quite good. he wears the soft inch blue type shoes. hes 13mths.
just wondering when other s put real shoes on?
my reason for them now is its damp here and his feet get soaking in the garden, so he needs a bit more insultation!

clarks 1st shoes? they didnt have the really soft ones when dd1 was a baby, but she had the cruising type ones, and they were pretty good. as soon as they are walking outside i'd put 'warmer' shoes on.

Katemum · 28/08/2005 09:03

My dd has been walking for about 8 weeks. I got the shoes as soon as she started walking as we were walking in parks and on the road. Wanted her feet protected from whatever happened to be there.

swiperfox · 28/08/2005 09:05

Hiya my ds has only been walking a week or so but has been wearing clarks cruisers for cruising in the garden/park etc, they're really soft but keep them warm and dry

Pixiefish · 28/08/2005 09:19

DD had been walking for 8 weeks exactly when I went to get her shes. As she wasn't 1 at the time I bougt her a pair of the clarks 'cruising' shoes as they're very soft and light. The next pair she had when I had her feet remeasured 6 weeks later were 'proper' first shoes. If she's walking outside then I'd get her a pair of the 'cruising' shoes. The general advice is 8 weeks OR when they want to walk outside. Dd is 19m old now ad very rarely wears her shoes unless she's walking outside- I take them off in the house, pram, car and sling (pram and sling also as she takes them off herself and I'm scared of losing them)

Woops- what happened there then?

Nemo1977 · 28/08/2005 09:22

I had ds in cruisers then clarkes first walkers. I took him about 6 wks after mainly when the shoes started to get tight.

Nemo1977 · 28/08/2005 09:24

same reason as pixie fish really ds was 8.5mths when he started walking so took him at around 9.5mths to clarkes for proper shoes which was when he wanted out of the pram more etc.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 28/08/2005 09:26

Jess had crawling shoes, now on cruising shoes, but from what dad has said, it looks like a trip to clarkes is in order when she gets home for first walking shoes!

littlerach · 28/08/2005 10:22

Well, DD2's feet are so small that she can only have the crawling shoes, so I am very jealous of all of you!

She has a size 2 shoe, and Clarkes' staff all cooed at how tiny she is! I haven't bothered getting any as she has the soft leather ones that don't come off, but suppose I'll have to do something when it gets cooler.

Springchicken · 28/08/2005 10:24

Sorry to digress but my DD has been walking for about a week now, still quite wobbly but getting better and better each day.
I went to Clark's to get her feet measured but i hated all the shoes.
Any other suggestions where i can get her first walking shoes from?

homemama · 28/08/2005 10:29

Hi, DS not ready for shoes yet but I worked in Clarks as a student and we always told people to give it at least 6wks but no more than 10wks after baby starts walking. The course said its partly to do with balance as they need to 'find their feet' as it were. Also the weight of walking will flatten their feet and spread them so shoes bought too soon will be too small within 2 or 3wks. HTH

Kidstrack2 · 28/08/2005 10:30

My dd has tiny feet and found it hard to get her shoes but startrite were very good. My dd was 13m and my ds 9m when they started walking and after about 4weeks wobbling I took them for the first walkers and both immediately must have felt secure in the shoes as they stopped wobbling. I like Startrite and Clarks!

Hulababy · 28/08/2005 10:54

We got DD some first walkers when she'd be walking about a wee or so, as she was outside and it was cold. They were little Kickers - black patent leather ones and a tiny 2.5E. They were so cute

DD actually had pre walkers before then though - all measured and fitted as she was cruising and walking with support outside and int he cold long before then, and I wanted her feet protected. We did take them off when she wasn't walking about though.

nikkie · 28/08/2005 19:28

Clark didn't believe me that my daughter could walk as she was 9 months when i took her for shoes and she was very small!
She soon showed them!
Her feet were too small for real shoes too so had soft ones.
Hush puppoes are good shoes but don't know how small they go

littleun · 29/08/2005 11:45

my ds started working early and my hv advised to buy little boots to support his ankles.
i also work for Clarks and know that we do a brill range of shoes for tiny toes, have a chat with your hv see what she suggests
