My daughter doesn't like to say her name - what's going on?

My dd is nearly 2 and totally gorgeous, seems bright enough, very cuddly and chatty. I have no worries about her whatsoever just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

She answers to her name but whenever i ask her to say it she gets cross with me or occassionaly she'll call herself "baby". it is a long name but not particularly hard to pronounce. most odd.

Mine called herself 'baby' for ages too - she did grow out of it and now proudly says her names, but hates her middle name and gets cross and upset if we say it!
DD finally stopped saying baby when she accepted she wasn't one - took her quite a long time....It also meant we couldn't use the usual incentive of 'big girls don't do X,Y etc' and she had no interest in being a big girl. :)

DD (2.7) has taken to calling me Aunty Rockbird (we've just spent time with her cousins). She went through a stage of calling MIL 'mum'. Names don't have the same meaning to littlies.

it is just the way she gets so cross if i ask her to say it. She is such a funny little bundle.

My niece used to say her name was "Keith" if she was asked directly. She was two-ish at the time, it didn't half confuse people. Keith was the name of the man next door.

nellie - excellent such a blokey name as well!
