Baby slings, door bouncers - any evidence of causing hip problems?

There are a lot of threads where people warn about not using Baby Bjorn type carriers and door bouncers as they may put stress on the baby's hip joints or spine.

has anyone any experience or evidence of real problems caused by these products or is this an old wife's tale?

I don't know of anyone who found real problems with these. Everyone i know followed the 'don't put them in it for more than 15 mins at a time, or more than twice a day' kind of rule that gets passed around.

slingguide.co.uk may have some info that will help regarding the slings

This is what SlingGuide says about hip stress and Baby Bjorn types.

Thanks all.

There is one article written by a chiropracter (some time during the nineties) which is referenced on the SlingGuide website, which speculates that using these carriers may cause back problems but presents no evidence of any reported back problems linked to slings and says "more research is needed". The article is published on a website about a book called "The Continuum Concept" not any professional journal.

It seems there is a hypothesis here, but it has not been tested unless anyone is aware of any medical evidence elsewhere?

I would be genuinely interested to know if anyone knows any more about this?
