dd (8 months) keeps trying to climb and jump out of the cot....which she can't actually do right now .......but she manages to get her head above the top of it with her feet off the floor and either bangs the underneath of her chin on the bar or ends up flying back into her cot bouncing of the rails...
It is already at the lowest it will go.

She's been walking around it for a few weeks but and been trying to get out of it via crawling for months (various head bangs)..

I'm not sure what to do she's already got health problems i'd rather not add concussion/broken jaw to them..Confused

Is there such a thing as cot padding??

Any help would be appreciated..

:)

There are things called cot bumpers, which are pads which go around the inside of the cot. They are designed to stop the baby banging itself on the cot when it moves around at night.
You should NOT get these as they are supposed to be removed as soon as the baby can stand. In your case they would only help your DD to climb out by giving her a leg up.
Actually, you don't need to do anything. Most babies go through a stage of trying to climb out at some stage. As long as the cot is on its lowest setting and she can't actually get out, she is safe. She may give herself a couple of minor bangs, but she is unlikely to do herself any actual harm and these will help to discourage her from continuing to try.
My DD actually did climb out once, when she was about the same age. She landed on her head on the floor and never tried to climb out again!

Ditto what RuthChan has said. My DS was 10 months when he fell out of his cot, and I hasten to add that he was ok, but he didn't do it again. I know its scary, but don't worry, your DD is just trying things out and it will phase out soon.

Could you take the sides off and/or put the mattress on the floor for her to sleep on? It sounds like the sides are the problem - if they weren't in place, there wouldn't be anywhere for your DD to fall, IYSWIM?

I really wouldn't let an 8mo sleep on a mattress on the floor! Especially given that she's clearly active at night. Leave her in her cot - she can't get out and they're designed to be proof against tipping over, however much she walks around it! Just make sure it's not near any boxes or drawers that she could use to get a leg up. She might bang her head a few times on the bars but it won't do her any damage.

Confused

Octavia, you do know that mats and mattresses on the floor is how most people and babies sleep? Presumably sugarbea's house is babyproofed so baby won't come to any harm and, at 8mo, it's likely that her dd will still be in her parent's room anyway.

Fine if it's not sugarbea's preference but I don't think it's helpful to insinuate that the way most of the world sleeps is dangerous!

Most eight month old babies sleeping on mattresses will be doing so with a parent or elder sibling sharing the bed. An eight month old sleeping alone on a mattress is different.

Sugarbea have you tried putting her in a Grobag? Mine wore them and never managed to get out of their cots. Well not until they were able to figure out how to unzip them anyway Smile

You could also put something on the floor so that if she falls she has a soft landing.
