my youngest is 18months and not yet talking but has started squealing at the top of his lungs. A high pitched, possibly ultrasonic squeal that i wish only dogs could hear. This then sets of ds1 who is three and he joins in for a squealing competition so at least four times an hour the two of them are screeching at the top of their lungs. How do i stop this?am i fighting a losing battle its just i fear i may lose my sanity/ability to hear some time soon. Any baby whisperer tricks out there.

I think ear plugs might be the only solution.

If he does it tell him to stop. If he doesn't stop then literally remove him from the room and put him out of earshot (Bedroom? Door closed?) with the instruction 'I'll come back when you stop screaming'. Squealing is probably no fun if you do it all by yourself in a bedroom... only if mummy is making that funny face. The three year-old suspects that it is fun bu not acceptable, but if you do nothing then he'll read that as an 'It's OK'. He has to be told not to copy the baby....

My 1 year old DS has started doing this and it makes my 4 year old DD (SN) very anxious. As hes to young for the naughty step I tell him NO firmly and if he persists I put him in his cot for a min to calm down. He doesnt seem to react to DDs tantrums but has definately found his voice! Im trying out baby signing too so he can tell me what he wants instead of the squealing. Early days though! :)
