Does my DD have monster feet?

I've just bought school shoes/socks for DD age 4.5. She's a size 12 shoe. Socks seem to come in a 9 - 12 or 12 - 1 size, so I was going to get the bigger ones (she can grow into them ) - the age on these was for 7 year olds. She's always been big for her age, but is this bigger than average? How big are the feet of your 4/5 year old?

Guess she'll never blow over in the wind, eh?

My dd (aged 8) is size 3.5 - 4 adult

Most of the traditional styles I like (particularly for school) do not come in these sizes. Start-rite are ok but they still have bigger heels than I would ideally prefer.

Maybe we should start a campaign to children's shoe manufacturers: wake up to the fact that children's feet are getting bigger at a younger age!!

Yes agreed Cam. My kids have huge feet - those sizes I gave below are also adult sizes. Prices shoot up by about £10 minimum per pair for sizes 6 and over. It really annoys me!

QueenEagle · 29/08/2005 17:33

That's £10 extra at least for the next size up from a 5 to a 6 iyswim...

My dd takes size 12 1/2 - she's 5 in a couple of weeks, ds is 6 1/2 and in size 13. They both need measuring for school shoes, so I guess they might have slightly bigger feet than that, but the speed of growth (thankfully) seems to have started to slow down. They are both in size 7-8 clothes, although ds is still taller than he is (I'm guessing that may change!)

my sister is 5 in 4 months and she is size 12 1/2 feet

My dd1-5.8 is a size 11 and dd2 3.11 is a size 8 met my friend today and talking shoes her dd 5.9 is a size 12 and ds is 3.9 and a size 10.5!

Foot size is supposed to indicate how big you will grow isn't it?

Janh · 29/08/2005 20:58

It is supposed to be an indicator for puppies but I don't think it applies to humans, nikkie.

DD1 was a little mite throughout childhood, with tiny feet (she was about a size 6 at age 4-5), but ended up 5'7 with size 6-7. DD2 was taller but with average feet and is now the same. DS1 was average size with smallish feet and at 17 is over 6' with size 11s.

Small feet are cheap to keep

QE, re the price hike for kids-adult sizes; I read ages ago that the adult sizes are actually made much sturdier (ie more expensively) on the grounds that they will be used for longer because they won't be grown out of - it isn't just the VAT and a rip-off of parents with big kids, and in fact I have noticed lately that some kids' ranges do go up to 6.5/7 these days.

DS 4.6 just gone into 9.5. His sandals purchased in May were 8.5.
