2-year check- is it worth it?

Just wondered if anyone found the HVs 2-year check useful for their DC. We're not being offered an individual appointment, just an open clinic where I could get DD weighed and go through the checklist in the red book etc.

I would go as I'd quite like to check her weight, but it's a time when she's usually at nursery. She changed to a new room a few weeks ago and is still a bit unsure when being dropped off in the mornings, so I don't really want to disrupt her- she's already missed a few days over the summer.

I don't have any concerns about her weight or development, so shall I just not bother with the check?

Personally, I wouldn't bother unless you had any real concerns. I didn't go for my DS as he was developing fine, hitting all milestones, eating, sleeping etc and I didn't think it was worth taking some of my time out to go.

I do have friends who have been because they have had concerns but I think you know your 2 year old so well by now that you are the real judge of whether everything is going well or not.

I think I would go there - I don't think there is any harm.

besides, you are lucky that they offer it. in my area this has been scrapped. we had the last check up at 8 weeks (GP) and the next one will be due at around 4! disgusting, I think!

I'd go! Did with dc1, service was reduced to a questionnaire by dc 2 and 3 Shock cos of course all parents can spot everything that might not be going well...

I only went to get the bookstart books, and have recently found out that you can collect them at your local library.

Personally I wouldn't bother unless you were concerned about something.

I would bothr going unless you had concerns over something. I took my DD a week or so ago for her check and they couldn't get me out the door quick enough Shock

We did get some free books and a toothbrush but otherwise was a little pointless.

If you have serious concerns over DCs development the HV will only say see your GP, like she did with us.

jelliebellie16 · 13/08/2010 12:03

that was meant to say wouldn't bother going

Thanks all for the responses. I think I probably will leave it, I think taking her out of nursery will do more harm then the check will do good at the moment- I can always go to the normal HV clinic if needed.
