my 3 month DS seems to be teething early. his hands are constantly in his mouth and he gets them in quite far. it gives him somecomfort but also seems to have the unpleasant consequence of making him vomit. anyone else have any experience of this?

My DD does a similar thing but she has always been a bit 'vomit-y'. She started to suck her fingers more and more at about 8 or 9 weeks (she's 16 weeks now) and started drooling a lot too, and at times, I have had to take her hands out and try to get a dummy in, which she takes if she's sucking for comfort when tired, but which she tries to chew and fails at other times. I found a MAM light-weight teether in Sainsburys that I'm trying to get her onto, so she isn't always chewing her fingers and having dribble running down her arm. I can only suggest using a bib to catch the vomit and if he really isn't happy, he'll stop doing it!!

yes i had to start using bibs for this purpose, and rapidly ran out of clean ones! i bought a teething soother from kiddicare, i got it yesterday, i thought that would be good because he's too young to hold a teether for long enough for it to be of any use whereas i thought this one shaped as a dummy would stay in for longer. but so far hes finding the shape a bit wierd in his mouth so it doesn't really last long.

the best thing of all though if i can call it that is that i was unsure whether this was teething even though it seemed to be, but since yesterday hes really started to suck on his lower lip which has convinced me thats definitely what it is. its reassuring cos so many of his other habits have changed now at least i have something i can put it down too (that and a growth spurt in the last week)!

I am relieved to see this post as I am getting really worried about my 10 month old DS. He has been sticking his fingers in his throat and vomiting about once a day for a week now. It is really upsetting me but he smiles and laughs when I take his hand away from his mouth and tell him to stop it. It doesn't cause him pain when he vomits, he just sticks his fingers in it and does it again. Aaargh.
He did it about 3 times this afternoon when we were in town for a walk and at one stage his t shirt was soaked in vomit, it was really horrible. He has 5 teeth already, 2 on the bottom and 3 on the top, and there are signs of two more coming in the top gum. I know he gets comfort from sucking his fingers but it's as if he doesn't realise the consequences of sticking them down his throat. I really hope this is a phase he grows out of!
Sad
