I dont think thats a worry, my son is 5 and still totally wet at night

mears · 27/07/2003 12:01

Children do not need investigated for bedwetting until after the age of 7 yrs. It is very common to be wet at night, people just don't talk about it very much so you think you are on your own. Try not to fret over it so that she does not become uptight. She will grow out of it. HTH.

I agree, also once in three months doesn't sound like too much of a problem to me. If it was my children (not that old yet!) I probably wouldn't think twice about it.

janh · 27/07/2003 19:40

I agree too - once in 3 months is nothing to worry about, but do keep a waterproof sheet on the bed so the mattress doesn't get soaked when she does have an accident. (Wet bedding is easily sorted but wet mattresses aren't!)

Mears is right. There are lots of children still wetting at night at the age of 5 and even older. It's just that people keep quiet about it for some reason. My dd has just had her first ever dry week and she's 6 and 3 quarters! I bet your dd is not the only one in her class to have the occasional wet night.

I have 4 children 3 of which are still wet every night, and the oldest one is 11! It can also be due to immaturity of the bladder, it doesn't yet recognise that it is full. Nothing is usually done until the age of 7 though. Once every three months seems pretty good to me at that age.

I think between us Janh and myself could hold seminars about this subject .

judetheobscure · 28/07/2003 11:44

I could contribute to the seminars too! My dd wasn't dry at night until 6. Until then, each time we tried she had been wet regularly. Then suddenly at 6 she turned dry and has not had a wet night since (she's now 7 1/2). (Contrast with a friend whose dd was "dry" at 3, but who at 8 "still" has the occasional wet bed. - They're all different).
My ds1 has been out of nappies for about 4 months now and usually has a wet bed about 2 times a week. (was 4 times a week when we first started but he got very upset when we suggested he go back in nappies). - And we take him to the toilet at about 11pm too.
However, my ds2, aged 3 1/2, has just started sleeping without nappies. He goes through the night (no 11pm toilet stop) usually 6 out of 7 nights).

They're all different, and as someone else said, they won't even start to investigate until they're 7 years old.

Forgot to say, my ds1 has just turned 6.

very good news!

ds1 five and a half has stopped wetting hte bed - we forgot to put his puul up on last week and thats it! Dry ever since!

roisin · 01/02/2004 18:45

Great news Coddy Ds1 was just like that - nearly 5 and it suddenly clicked. Have always said I'll be patient with ds2, but I'm not. He's 5 in May, and I can't wait for him to be dry.

Coddy · 01/02/2004 18:48
