Tears and hysterics at gurgles and giggles

My 11 month old, normally pretty chilled, DD started a couple of months ago, bursting into really hard crying fits when she's with any other babies around her age who happen to have a giggle or a gurgle - just as she's doing most of the time.

It's happened with four or five different groups of mums and babies - mums can all be having a laugh and making a bit of a racket but the moment one of the babies dares to squeal with delight, my DD is off - and of course sets off the rest which is starting to make us rather unpopular! The moment we leave, she is right as rain and all smiles and giggles herself.

People have been very polite, saying these inconsolable hysterics are another by-product of teething but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced similar behaviour and what might be behind it?
She has quite a bit of exposure to other people and slightly older children through childminders etc..so really not sure where this 'anti-social' behaviour is coming from.

Would love to hear that this is just a phase.. hopefully a quick one!

My son was alwayd like this - fine when adults make a noise, not good when other children did. How is she when they cry? That also caused much hysteria from my little boy. He has improved now (he's 2 and a half), - it's only crying that sets him off now. Have mostly tried just reassuring him that it's ok when other children do it - lots of cuddles and stuff. He just seems to be very sensitive to the noise and the lack of predictable-ness (is that even a word?!)

Fingers crossed she will start to grow out of it soon!
