What does your 19 month old DD play with?

Because she is second DC, we already had lots of toys, so on birthdays / christening / christmas, i have been asking/collecting for 'pintoy' / dolls house stuff.. and DH and I bought her the house. I know she has been far to young up to now.

But just lately she has been playing with all 3 year olds toys.. and i would like her to have something of her own - but don't want her to break it all and regret getting it out.

At what age would you say she would get the most out of playing with this stuff?

Because my DS plays with tractors / trains all the time. I find it hard to gauge what she might like.. (she is not walking yet!)

Hi, my DD is 18 months and her favourite toys (in no particular order!) are her slide; sit in car; plastic tea set; plastic farm toys; balls; books; crayons; 'wow' tractor & trailer; teddy & blanket (will sit covering the teddy up for ages!); building blocks; click clack track and shape sorting bus. I didn't think she would be old enough to role play but she loves pretending to make tea and drink out of the cups! At nursery she loves the kitchen but doesn't really role play with it - just puts all of the utensils in and out of the drawers!! We are going to get her a kitchen for Christmas when she will be nearly 2. Hope this is helpful!

thanks teleaddict
When i look at photos of my son at 18 months, he is playing with such basic things.. but she seems to be playing the same as him!

Think i will leave the dolls house for when she will appreciate it more!

Just sometimes look at her playing tractors and trains with him, and wonder if i'm making her into a right tom boy! But she has got solls, they just don't play with them!

They have a joint elc wooden kitchen, which they both love, and its the best thing that they both play with nicely together.. that and building blocks.

My 19mo is also the second child - he plays with DD's peppa pig stuff, megabloks, playdough (does keep licking it though), he likes to use crayons/felt tips on the wall, and happyland stuff.

He likes pretend play with DD too, joins in with her pretend tea parties etc. Mostly he just gets bossed around TBH.

she reads "that's not my..." books
runs after a ball
ride ons
jigsaws
dolls
pull along dog
playmobil figures (but only those that someone else is playing with)

mostly she just steals other peoples stuff and legs it cackling Grin

I just think she would be so much more content if she would get up and walk!
She is just so different compared with DS when he was that age, its really difficult to judge.
Thanks Ladies!

My 23m dd loves her swing, barbies, my little pony, stickle bricks, building blocks, colouring (especially walls) and bags. She fills an old handbag with assorted crap incredibly useful items. Says 'byebye' and walks off. She's back 5 seconds later to repeat. :)

DD is my second DC and I too have a DS first.

I've just bought her the bluebell ELC boot off ebay... and will open and shut the doors for ages. she loves DS's old kitchen and a friend has just bought her the pots and pans etc as a belated b'day pressie

Wooden puzzles for that age are a hit...early learning centre happyland. Buggy and dolly. DS got a pop up tent for his birthday and she loves that.

I've found her so much more "pottering" than DS (although way more stroppy and independent) which is nice as DS is off to school soon so I can see maybe we might be able to spend a bit more time in the house than I ever could with DS who was and still is like a duracell bunny. So, getting a few more "girly" toys seems to have fulfilled this...She does though seem to love DS's ELC garage too whizzing the cars down the ramps....no harm really eh?

Mine has a 3 year old brother so I'm probably not much help!

She loves cars, tractors etc. She plays with trains, farms animals, builds with lego and duplo. She loves putting the men into things and taking them out and putting them back and taking them out and putting them back and taking them out and...you get the idea! Shge has a couple of dolls and a pushchair. The pushchair is a lovely wooden one that is well weighted so is good for a new walker. She likes puzzles, simple card ones that are just 2 pieces to match up are far more of a hit than wooden ones. They have a bit of play food and stuff so a bit of cooking gets doen but she isn't quite old enough yet for the proper pretending that comes with tea sets and stuff.

We are getting her a dolls house for her 2nd birthday at Christmas but it is my old, very simple house and will just have very basic stuff in it.

Don't worry abouther being a tom boy, they have no concept of girl thigs and boy things and that is wonderful!

My 18 month old DD loves her dolls pushchair - in fact it's not the pushchair bit she likes as she has removed the seat it's just the wheels. She will push it round the garden for ages!

She loves her wooden puzzles, her books (especially lift the flap or noisy), cars and lorries (her older DBs), her tea set, saucepan set, my plastics cupboard!, she loves plastic jewellery and hats, crowns oh and she adores shoes, any ones shoes, she will clip around in them for ages.

I am planning to buy her a kitchen for Xmas.

sillybillymummy · 10/08/2010 22:34

Thanks everyone. I think i have it covered then..
I think i will keep the posh dolls house until she will really appreciate it. - not that i think this time will ever come, because she does just love playing tractors/ trains.. and is a total tom boy already!

I just look around a couple of friends houses that have girls, and wonder if she is missing out .. with all the pink stuff!

We will ask for / get her a buggy/pram for Xmas / Birthday but not convinced she will like this, as she has a doll and cot which she has never played with.

easilyconfused I know what you mean, about them not knowing whats for boys and girls, it's actually really refreshing!! My son has a fancy dress costume (red dress), that my friends little girl was too big for, he is actually sleeping in it as we speak, he wants to wear it to his mates birthday party on thursday, but won't take it off for me to wash it -he looks so funny!
