When do you move toddler from cot to bed...?

I was just wondering when others have done this, and is it a lot of hassle? My dd is 19 months.

I would SS if youre not having any problems.

I was wondering this too. All babies in my family have been moved quite quickly, Nephew was 18 months, Niece was 14 months and best mate's DS was moved at 13 months.

DD has never once tried to get out of her cot but i cannot wait to buy her a bed. I'm going to try it in a few weeks once i've got a bed guard and a gate for her door

Ours went in at 18 months. Never had any problems. He is now 2.4yo, and still yells out "want to get up now" in the morning, and only gets up when we either fetch him or say its ok to get out. He has never wondered around at night.

My DD is 3 in a couple of weeks and I still haven't moved her to a bed. Some of DD's friends have moved and it sounds like a nightmare. As far as I am concerned I will move her when the cot is no longer suitable for her i.e she can get out and hurt herself until then I am very happy knowing that when she is in her bedroom she is in her cot safe and sound!

ds was moved at 12mths because of trying to vault over the sides so thought it was safer to put him in a bed. Worked well for us and we dont have problems with him going to bed/ staying in bed.

DD was 2.3 years and the transition was relatively pain free

Good Luck X

I am so glad to read this thread. Dd1 is 2.5 and still in her cot. I have felt like a bit of an oddball for keeping her in it so late but I will carry on now. She has only tried to climb out once and that was months ago. She likes it and the HV said it is the safest place for her when I asked her (as long as she didn't climb out obviously). With a new baby I didn't want the chances of both dd's waking me up

DD is still happily in her cotbed at 2.2. I was in mine till I was 3 and potty-trained.

bobbybob · 26/08/2005 22:13

Ds is 2.5, currently choosing himself. Some weeks its the cot 5;2 and some the bed. We're lucky that we have room for him to be indecisive.

ds1 22 months and he was a nightmare (he wasn't a great sleeper in his cot either though).
Ds2 just recently and he will be 3 next week - no problems at all (so far!!!)

oh well looks like i was a bit too eager with my son. he was 8 months old when i put him into a normal sized single bed. he slept through the night happily and even when he started walking i had no problems with him getting out of bed as he was so used to his bed by then it was normal to wait for mummy to say it was ok to get up. he is now 7 and has a double bed lol he needs it for all his cuddly animals they take up half of the bed he has the other half.

lilsmum · 26/08/2005 22:47

dd went into a toddler bed at 18mth
