1 yr old baby boy still can't sit up.

My Baby boy will be 1 in 2 weeks time but still can't sit up in his own.He basically lies on his mat & kicks his legs, or he goes in his baby walker & gradually slumps forward, although he does move backwards in it. I also put him in his highchair & he gradually slides down & i've got to keep sitting him up straight. I've got another 2 children who were late walkers but they both sat up without any problems.
Any ideas would be greatfully recieved

What does your hv say?

missycantstop · 24/08/2005 23:42

can he stand on his own/ take steps? what about crawling?don't want to alarm you but this could be cerebral palsy. My advise is to go to your doctors. get an appointment asap and let us know how you get on.

sorry my mistake "advice"

I think that he should be checked ASAPer and if that could be done by a paediatrician the better. IME GPs who are not very familiar with development milestones will send you to check with the HV, which could be a fantastic well informed wise woman but TBH, my HV was far from being that, I wouldn't trust her judgement (though, she was very nice)

could it be a balance thing? is it worth getting his ears checked to ensure they arent affecting his balance. How are other developmental cues going, babbling, interaction, waving, pincer grip and so forth? See my thread I am having developmental worries with my almost 1 yr old too.

kittiebiddy · 25/08/2005 19:37

I went to see my GP re this and his lack of "bowel movement" a few weeks ago,he refered my boy to see a paediatrician on the september the 7th.

when he lies on his back he can kick his legs away and he has perfect neck/head control,he can lift his head off the ground to see whats going on,he seems to be lifting his head higher each day.

I hope this is a good sign as I'm beginning to get worried as I search through the net looking at different symptons.

What's the rest of his development like? Does he clap, point, know his name, recognise sounds? He could just have unusually low muscle tone, it's a nuisance, but with good physio at a young age it's not necessarily a life-long disability.

Good luck.

kittiebiddy · 25/08/2005 20:34

He does all of those things, i agree it is probably low muscle tone. We have an appointment in 2 weeks time with a paediatrician, hopefully we'll get the answers we're looking for.

Thanks everyone for all of your suggeations.
