Is two and a half too old for a booster seat at the dinning table?

I have a tall 2.5 year old little girl. She will not sit still long enough to eat a meal in her high chair anymore and really resists me putting her in it, I think she may be getting too big for it as when she is in it she seems really uncomfortable. I think she would eat better sitting at the table but obviously she is not tall enough and I really need a way to strap her in as well as she gets board of eating after 2 minutes and would escape if she wasn't strapped in. I've been thinking about getting a booster seats but most of them say they are only suitable for a child under two. Does anyone still use them for older children? We go on holiday in a few weeks so a travel booster seat would be ideal but I don't want to waste my hard earned cash if she's too big.

My DD has been using a booster seat with straps (although we no longer use these) since she just before she was two - she is now 27mo. I didn't realise that they were meant only for under twos. She could sit on a normal seat but she wouldn't be quite tall enough to make it comfortable for her imo and the seat seems sturdy enough - she is also tall for her age.

My nephew who is a year older only stopped using one about six months ago so I would think it was pretty common to still be using one at her age.

i have a booster seat for the table with straps so cannot get down etc ds has been using this since he was 2 with no problems and still does his 5 now we just dont strap him in anymore ours is higher backed than the first one we bought and is able for older children ill see if i can find link for it

jellyjem · 04/08/2010 14:34

Thanks, a link would be great. I was looking at the Baby Polar one that folds up flat for travel but maybe some of the booster seats are bigger than others.

bubblagirl · 04/08/2010 14:39

Oblomov · 04/08/2010 14:46

been using a booster with ds2 since 1.5 most on my mn pn thread have been too.
so is no way too young, maybe even a bit too old if anything !!

Meglet · 04/08/2010 14:47

DS is 3.9, fairly tall and still in a booster seat.

bubblagirl · 04/08/2010 14:47

it may well be described as travel high chair rather then booster seat but obviously with tray off is then booster seat its very sturdy ds doesn't use his anymore so could always have mine if you wanted it its green and white and doesnt have tray

jellyjem · 04/08/2010 14:58

Thanks Bubblagirl, where do you live? It would be great if you lived local and I could come and pick it up, otherwise it'd probably cost too much to post. I live in Dudley (West Midlands).

im not near there should only cost around 6 pounds i would imagine to send much cheaper than buying one from new

jellyjem · 04/08/2010 15:17

Bubblagirl - Does is fold up quite small so we can take it on holiday? We're driving to France in a couple of weeks and want to take it with us. If you are with paypal I could send you the cash. Thanks xxxx

it doesnt fold really small as its quite solid the back folds down to make it flatter still small box like can slide under a seat or sit on parcel shelf or slid in boot but it doesnt go small and compact due to the sturdiness of it but its a good seat and kept ds at the table for many years only just stopped using it and his a very tall 5 year old and will now stay sitting at table lol

jellyjem · 04/08/2010 15:26

Bubbleagirl - that would be brilliant, sounds just the kind of thing we're looking for and so long as it will fit in the car it should be perfect, if it's just a box type size we should be able to get it in. How much do you want for it and how do I pay you?

That is what we use for DD1 who is now 4.6. She can sit without it but with it she is at a proper level for eating/sticking/painting so we are keeping it for a bit. Ours never had straps as I bought it second hand.
DD2 (2.8)is in a lindam seat with straps that she insists on doing up and undoing herself

bubblagirl · 04/08/2010 15:30

it will cost about 7 to courier looks like it will be cheaper to courier than by royal mail straps will need to go in wash but apart from that all ok how about 10 pound inc delivery then i can give ds the 3 for his holiday pot x oh paypal but dont like posting addy on here if you mail me sylv _ 25 at hotmail dot co dot uk obvioulsy no spaces then ill give you paypal addy xx
