My daughter is now 5 months old, when she was born she devloped a bruse just about her right bum cheek i mentioned this to the health visitor who sudgested that she may have been knocked whilst she was been delivered but 5 months on she still has the bruse, and she has 4 extra cresses in her right leg could it be the dislocated hip thingie which new borns sometimes have sorry i do not know the propper term, also she can not yet hold her head up, she can for about 10 seconds then it flops forward, i have mentioned this to the doctor who didnt really make any effort to look at her or check my concerns, should i be concerned? at her twenty week scan it showed that she had a 14mm cp cyst on her brain, i was told that it would go should i mention that to the doctor next time i visit?

Dear Diddymiddys

The bruise could be something called a Mongolian blue spot and should fade in time.

I would be concerned if her leg creases are not symmetrical. I would also go back to your GP if you are concerned about her not supporting her head.

Ask for a referral to a paediatrician to get this checked it out. It is what your doctor is paid for.

Hope that helps.

thanks for that , there not symmentrical so i will go back to the doctors with her thanks

I think the symmetry of the creases was one of the things DD's doctor was looking for at the first check up, so definitely go and make sure you get a referral to a paediatrician.

That cyst should have been followed up as well, I think.

I just googled and it seems that assymetrical leg creases can indeed be a sign of a thigh dysplasia- and that should be treated because if it's not it can result in a pernament limp.

So definitely get the referral.

re cyst i was told before the scan that they now had to look for soft markers for downs and so forth, they saw the cyst and mentioned before they messured it that they were not concerned as long as it was below 10mm my daughters was 14mm but they said i was not to be concerned, the health visitor checked there cresses and told me to take her to the docs but he didnt seem overly concerned. but i will follow both up thanks

No, I think you're right to follow it up. The creases assymmetry doesn't necessarily mean that your baby has thigh dysplasia- but it is one of the signs that doctors look for, so it should be checked out.
Same for the 'bruise'- probably nothing as Jaybird said, but still you want to be sure.
And the cyst- well, if it was my baby I would definitely want to be sure it's all gone- just because.
I think babies are expected to have a perfect head control at 6 months- so at 5 months she might still be a bit wobbly- but if you're concerned then definitely ask the doctor about it.
How is she otherwise? Is she developing well, is she a happy baby, eating well, smiling etc?

diddymiddys · 04/08/2010 00:28

she eats like a horse she weighs aprox 15 lb now smiles loads and generally sleeps through and has just started laughing, she is my second child although i have much to learn as my 1st son is autistic n 3 years old, he could hold his head up at a month old, never really smiled as a baby and never really did any of the things you would expect a baby to do so this is a whole new learning curve for me.

She sounds lovely and a happy little girl. I wouldn't worry too much but definitely get the referral to be sure everything is ok.

Good luck and let us know how it went at the docs tomorrow.

will do thanks for all your help.
